ZX 7 irons, what AW?

Been reading some comments on the ZX 7 aw. kind of not blending well from the pw. because of the blade look.  Curious now that folks have been getting there iron sets if they're going with the set aw or using a Zipcore.  I have the 54 & 58 Zipcore's with the stock shafts, but like to try and match my aw. with the same iron shafts because it's basically a full sing club.

I went with ZX5 GW for my ZX7 7-PW and ZX5 5-6 combo set,  and very happy with its looks and performance.  I couldn’t get over the blade look of the ZX7 GW

Still waiting on my ZX7s to arrive but I do have the AW bent to 50, then 54 and 58 Zipcores.

If your approach wedge is mostly a full swing club it’s the best way to go. Previously I had RTX4s in 50, 54 & 58. I found that I rarely used the 50 on partial or delicate shots.  When I did use it on full shots I couldn’t get the best out of it. The ZX7 AW is that little bit more forgiving and I feel more comfortable with it. It also works well if you need to hit more of a running chip shot

Just curious if there is some long term feedback about the ZX7 AW?

I currently have the ZX7 4-PW along with a 50/56/60 Zipcore RTX.  I like the zipcores, but I am curious about trying to ZX7 AW and matching the shaft to my irons (Modus 120x).  At some point it may be hard to buy the AW once it goes out of production, so I figure if I want to secure one it could be good to go ahead and just buy it new.

Does anyone have insight into how far the ZX7 AW (either stock or bent to 50deg) is compared to the Zipcore?

Right now I am hitting these distances (typical standard deviation would be ~3 yds for me):

SW-56: 105 (Zipcore)

GW-50: 120 (Zipcore)

PW: 135

9i: 150

8i: 165

The gapping is currently okay, and wouldn't want to mess with it too much.  120-125 is about right for the GW/AW, and I may even think about getting the PW bent 1 strong to push it toward 140.

I put in an order for a ZX7 AW, bent 1 strong to 50 deg.  My ZX7 PW is bent one strong as well to 45, then stock the rest of the set.  Most people have good things to say about it, and say it seems to be a bit lower spinning than the zipcore.  I get plenty of spin with the zipcore, so not worried about that.  Assuming I get it in a few weeks, I may try to get on a GC Quad somewhere and see how they compare in terms of ideal conditions.

Zx7 aw is my go to wedge. I have a 56 and 60 ping glide 3.0 but find I don’t use them unless out of a bunker or short sided with a tight pin. If I could get the zx7 sw from Japan I would.

Didn't know there was a sand wedge...  what does it look like?  Similar to the AW?

Order shipped out!  Unfortunately on the FedEx slow boat from coast-to-coast, so probably will be a week or two before I am able to report back with anything.

I was playing CBX2 GW and SW with a full set of 585s before I got my combo set of ZX5/ZX7s.  I wasn't sure about the AW but thought I would give it a try.  At address it looks great, turf interaction is very good,  but clearly plays as a blade type wedge, pretty similar to the Zipcore, I have hit several with a Zipcore 56 but didn't stick with it.

I went with the ZX7 AW mostly as I switched to recoils from modus 105s in my irons, and just thought I would try the AW since Srixon doesn't upcharge for recoils.   I really like my CBX full face 56 and 60 degree wedges, I was using a 58 only before, I potentially could see me going back to maybe a CBX2 50 degree, they just blend well with the ZX irons imo.

Just got the ZX7 AW yesterday and took it to hit at the range (mats) today.  Definitely like it, and feels a lot softer compared with the RTX Zipcore 50*.  I like the zipcore too, but definitely not as soft feeling/sounding.

Perhaps the biggest other difference is the bounce.  I have the mid bounce zipcore at 10*, and the ZX7 is 8*... but I have it bent 1* strong, so the bounce is effectively 7*.  I will have to see if that yield a turf interaction I like more/less than the zipcore.

If I am able to get to a launch monitor soon, I will compare the two.

Got on a GC Quad this morning to compare them.  Definitely prefer the ZX7 based on feel.  I think I was slightly more accurate with the Zipcore, but I chalk that up mainly to me being used to it at this point.

RTX Zipcore 50*, mid bounce (10*) - S400 shaft (probably seen 10 rounds plus range session)

ZX7 AW bent 51* -> 50*, 8* stock bounce - Modus 120x shaft  (brand new)

The differences in performance were somewhat minor, and some it could be down to shaft differences and/or minor loft differences.  In theory the zipcore should be 50 deg and the ZX7 AW was ordered directly from Srixon bent to 50 deg (1 strong).

The ZX7 did seem to spin slightly less and launch a touch lower, as was mentioned in this/other threads about it, but I like it and still plenty of spin.  I also got a bit more ball speed for whatever reason... maybe the lofts are not both exactly 50*.

I like the 125 yardage of the ZX7 better than 120 for the zipcore, as it fits my gapping slight better (PW ~ 140).

I play a 50° CBX 2 with my ZX5 irons and agree it blends perfectly. The only thing is I sometimes find myself between my 44° PW and the 50° CBX2 and I'm not as confident on my distances as I was when I used to play a 47° PW. Since it's used for a lot of full swing shots I've considered trying a 48° CBX 2 in combo with my 54° and 58° wedges. But I'm probably just over thinking it. 🤔 LOL

Can anyone comment on understanding decent angles, is there an optimum decent angle or does change depending on the iron or launch? Is there a rule of thumb to keep in mind? Thank you.
