Best golf polo

Recommended Posts

I've started using the Uniqlo AIRism Pique short-sleeve polo:  https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E457935-000/00?colorDisplayCode=00&sizeDisplayCode=006

  • Button down collar - I love this feature - the collar stands up a bit and looks really good under a quarter-zip for golf (or work)
  • 57% Cotton / 43% Nylon
  • Slightly oversized - in line w/ FJ (I'm 5'11", 190 lbs and wear a medium)
  • Best to line dry if you don't want wrinkles
  • $29.99

A little early to talk about longevity, but these are definitely going to be my go-to for the spring and early summer.  Once it gets above 85d, I'll revert to 100% poly FJ and Adidas.

Ping G425 Max 10.5˚

Ping G425 Hybrid 22˚
Titleist 714 AP2 4i-PW, XP105
Titleist Vokey SM8 50F, 54S
Ping ChipR
Ping Karsten Anser / TaylorMade Spider GT Notchback

Ping Hoofer Lite

Got a few new brands in just a initial though on them as a bigger guy.

B.Draddy - they are snug but length is good so if you're taller and like a taper/slim fit these could be a good option for you, if you got a belly maybe avoid it. Will probably be a while for me to fit into this but might try and exchange it for another brand.

Dunning - Good length and width but a little snug, nothing awful probably put it with a few other shirts that I'll probably be into this summer.

Stitch - This one actually fits quite decent, comparable a bit more roomy than Peter Millar if I could compare a bit, interesting collar which is very dress shirt like. Will be interested to try this one out vs just trying it on.

Johnnie O - I do have another one but different material and similar fit, a bit slimmer for the one I got but the material is different.

I should probably do a run down of brands and their fits for larger golfers. Still have more brands to try but a lot are slim fit and I am not lol.

I'm looking to pick up a few Johnnie-O polos. Can anyone compare the fit of Johnnie-O to Peter Millar classic fit? I typically wear a Medium in Peter Millar. Thanks!

It's a little bit slimmer than the PM classic fit polos. Sleeves might also be a 1/2 inch or so shorter. I wouldn't go as far as to call it a "slim fit" shirt, but the PM classic fit polos are pretty big compared to other brands.

I'd say Johnnie O falls right in between a PM classic fit and the PM crown crafted (their "tailored" line).

I'm a big fan of RLX in general, and their Classic Fit polos (size Medium) do well by me. They fit me just right. They could use some more colors and prints, though. I seem to have an inordinate number of them that feature the color blue.  RL free shipping and free returns are awesome.

I find Johnnie-O to be more generous in the torso by a little bit, arms are longer on the PM, length is a touch shorter on the JO but still reasonable, not like Adidas short.

I'll get flamed but Costco has Greg Norman shirts. They cost about $14.99 and they are true to size and moisture wicking. I own 3 or 4 of them as well as the pants and shorts. I'm not spending $50+ for a golf shirt.

Not flaming you but I won't buy anything Greg Norman nor play any of his courses.  Done with him.

Peter Millar stuff is my pick.

From the polo shirts I own, I'd probably rank them best to worst order:

FJ athletic fit polo
Under Armour Play-Off Polo
Nike dri-fit golf polo (polyester) // Older Style Nike Tiger Woods Collection Polo

Ralph Lauren golf Polo (cotton)

Lacoste Sport Polo
Adidas Parley golf Polo

recently bought a Ping sensorcool polo but still waitin for it to arrive.

Not saying any are 'worse' than another, but the FJ and UA designs are better than the rest, the RL and Lacoste are just classic polo's adapted to Sports wear, i also have a Tiger Woods fist bump cotton shirt but I dont perticulaly like it for golf,

Greyson has become my go to now - Not sold anywhere near me, other than online, so not many people wearing them.  Unique styles and the fit is true.  I wear a L in Greyson, and it somewhat compares to XL in most other brands.

I have a lot of Nike ADV - those are very nice quality polos.

UNRL - new to my rotation, but fit well and feel great.

Rhoback - their patterns actually become redundant to me(I know they're technically different, but look the same to me).  Love the feel and fit, though.

Bad Birdie - just started to throw a couple of their more subdued patterns in my rotation.  Love the unique looks and the fit is comparable to Rhoback/PM/UNRL.

I need recommendations for light, moisture absorbing, stretch material type polo shirts that are relatively inexpensive. I'm done with the old school cotton shirts that shrink in the wash and lose their fit. Any suggestions?

If you have either a Marshall's or TJ Maxx near you, you can usually find PGA Tour, Callaway, UA, and other brands of golf shirts that fit your criteria in every way.

Literally every brand has that, majority are moving away from the cotton shirts minus a few who still have them as an option or they are blended with other materials to have benefits of both.
