Do your greens have hazards?

Your course manager either has no resources or no motivation. No matter what you're

paying, those conditions are awful.

Go F yourself.  Every man's home course is his castle.  Beauty is in the eye of of the golfer.  It looked to me like a pleasant stretch of nature..................        That would be a b**** to play....

You mean the owner? Not sure there is a course management established here. The "greens crew" is a few guys, at least 2 I know of, but that's about it.

I heard he won the club in a divorce. My guess is the property is long since paid for and it's basically staying afloat. I would be surprised if there were more than a few dozen folks who play here.

I enjoy it and will likely stay a member for a while. I only paid $700 because I don't live in town, I'm 30 minutes out. I could join Rock Creek County Club for a only a little more ($880/year), but they require collard shirts and no denim. I can bring my dog with me here and like my jeans.

God Damn Communists .

So what do you do hands on, besides throwing money, to improve your "castle." If I was in charge of managing that "castle," I would be severely embarrassed. Standards can, and should be, raised. Don't settle, keep improving. Turf loss happens everywhere, but should be timely repaired.

It works for us. We are a low maintenance group. We don't require perfectly manicured surfaces.

To make major improvements would cost major dollars. If he pull a grand a month, I'd be shocked. Figure members dues are $20k a year total. So maybe what, $30k a year total income?

How much of that $30k would you put towards improvements? You gotta keep the lights on, too.

<edit> might need to take a second job to afford your first one. 🤣

Cut trees, recoup that cost by selling the lumber.  Rent a stump grinder.  Mulch the limbs and put with the stump grindings, voila, mulch for where needed/wanted.

Your turf is suffocating.  How often are they punching those greens?  Bent will fill in the bare spots but not fast if there is algae growing on the bare spots.  Might be quicker to use nursery turf and plug it in.

I thought I had mentioned the course was but by a timber company. They have since moved on, but this course is literally in the middle of timber county for a reason (or at least it was).

I'll be happy if this course is still around 5 years from now. It's not a profitable venture due to location. It's not like if the place was 4 star, it would make a difference.

It's $9 for 9 holes, or $16/18. If you charged more, less folks would play. Pumpkin Ridge is 20 minutes away from here and easier to get to from the freeway. If you want nice, go there.

If it’s the course I’m thinking of, right down the street from me, there budget is non existent. Everything here is Poa and they don’t have a nursery. These are all problems that don’t take a ton of money to solve but I believe the staff is 3 with an extra for weekends.

We have to seed with Rye; because of the short germination period, (divots that is) but the Poa overtakes it in a couple weeks (if that long).

The other major issue which is a LARGE part of why fire danger is so bad around here (Willamette Valley, Oregon) is the Spotted Owl. Around 20 years ago they found that the endangered Spotted Owl makes its home/nests here and they basically shut down logging in the region. So to get permits to clear any stand of trees is a major undertaking that involves multiple layers of government. It sucks and has contributed to our forest fire problems and also killed multiple many smaller logging towns.

It's a fun course and a great group. I've only been playing there since September. I used to play Killarney when I lived in Forest Grove. I never got to play the course in Saint Helens, but I've heard stories.

Wildwood is closer, but I can't justify that cost 3+ times a week.
