I'm 53 and currrently have 5.8 on Handicap Tracker. In 2006 I finished at 5.7 USGA Handicap. Lowest ever was a 5 in 1972. I know handicaps are calcualted the same for everyone but I don't feel like true "6". My last 3 rounds in November/December are 82,86,85 but only the 82 figures in the handicap ( All from the back tees at my club).

I will usually start the year at an 8/9 and work my way to 5-7.

Given how little I get to practice these days, I'm pretty happy where I am.

Hi all,

I'll be 57 in 3 weeks. Current index +0.1 lowest it's been in a long, long time. Lowest it has been is a +2, although that was back in my college days.

My goal is to continue to be a scratch through 2008 and enjoy the ride as long as I can!

I will say that I enjoy golf much more now than I ever have. To me, the worst day of golf course is better than the best day of work!

Thank you and I sincerely mean that! Played a course in Cincinnati call Kenwood CC and course was not hard but could not putt those greens!! They only let me have one practice round and I had 5 (yep! five) three putts! One guy in our group had a four putt from 6 feet! Only birdie I had was a bunker shot....sad but true....

Age 51

Current +1.4

Lowest +2.4

I have 7 weeks into a 15 week golf specific fitness program. Not your Granddads workout either. My goals are to qualify for the U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Mid-Am this year.

Have to be the double nickel to get into the USGA Senior AM! But with that h/c you won't have a problem!

Age: 56

Current Index: 27.4

Goal in 12 months: 13.5

Objectives: Improve chipping & pitching; improve course management; double my Greens In Regulation percentage; improve my Drives In Fairway percentage to 75%.

My short game sucks. It has to suck a lot less.

Ronzo, I've been waiting for you! I'm 59 im may and really got back to this game about a year ago. Memberships at the local club just got terribly affordable and the combination or available spare time and the wife deciding she would like to learn to play got us going.

I'm gathering enough scores to begin posting and will have a trend like yours after a few more weeks. If I could eventually get it into the teens, any teens, I'd be grinning.

What's in the bag is new and some is on order. I'll update that soon, but it's all Cobra. I had a beer with the pro shop manager last night and he said what most of us know and that was that it's not the Arrow, as much as it is the Indian. But it sure is nice to have good arrows!

It sure is nice to have good arrows. My son and daughter-in-law started me off again with some gift certificates for my birthday and Christmas. But I must go into the confessional here: my handicap has INCREASED by 2.5 strokes! Here's an example of why, posted on another site. This is a round I shot back on March 15th:

"Drove spectacularly well, pitched and chipped horribly. Drives 240-275 in the fairway on 1,2,4,5,9,12, & 13. Skyed drive on 3 and hit drive right to right on 16 OB, but recovered with 250 drive dead in the middle of the fairway. Hit every iron thin all day, from almost perfect positions. Example: #12 -- Hit drive a MEASURED 275 to center of the fairway -- just BOMBED it -- and then bladed a 70 yd SW over the green into a mangrove thicket. Took 4 more from there to get on the green; just awful and depressing. My iron game needs a full overhaul to give me some consistency. Felt really good, no pain at all. Just anguish about my terrible iron play and mediocre putting. I can hit all of the shots. I truly can. But I cannot put it all together. There is always some part of my game where the wheels just totally come off. I drove to within 75 yards on 3 or 4 holes, and was completely unable to take advantage of it today. I don't need to learn the mechanics. I NEED CONSISTENCY!!!"

Since then, I've posted two 9-hole scores: a 40 and a 53. They were posted on a short, VERY tight local track, where any inaccuracy is severely penalized. Why do I play there, when it doesn't suit my game's strong points? Because I need to do exactly the things that this course requires to get better. I need to hit half-wedges, pitch to greens only 25 feet in diameter, and chip and pitch from awkward positions to get to a point where I have truly improved.

Strangely, I seem to play much better on more demanding courses, as long as I have a little room to miss. A longer course with larger greens, even with more hazards, is something that I can post a score on that is almost the same as one I would post on the short, tight track. Maybe it's because I focus better on the tasks at hand, but playing a 4,300 yard course and hitting 3 or 4 shots OB because you missed the 10 yard diameter green by 15 feet and bounced into the adjoining condo's lawn 10 feet further away gets me steamed, and I lose it mentally, I guess. What bothers me most is that the course's low slope rating seems to be determined almost exclusively by the shortness of it, rather than the accuracy it demands. Yes, I can hit two lob wedges on a par 3 there and likely not miss, but what kind of golf is that? I think it's the type that would truncate me as a player, probably permanently.

Oh, well. At least it's an index I can play to. But I'm really tired of sucking.

Age 58 (Live in the UK)

Current - 9.8

Lowest - 5.0 (30 years ago)

Ambition - To become more consistent (see below) and get as close to 5 as possible.

Played yesterday - extremely cold 15-20 mph crosswind and light rain - shot 86 nett 76 (css 73) - essentially 2 holes ruined a reasonable round (2 triple bogeys)

Cheers

Jim
