FJ Premier vs G/Fore Gallivanter. Comfort?

I've had a few pairs of the gallivanters and just got my first pair of FJ Tarlows. It took a while to figure out the sizing with FJ and my best comparison is that it's "dress shoe sizing" for me at least. I wear a 12.5-13 athletic shoe and never bigger than a 12 dress shoe. I ended up with the FJs in a 12 and felt some initial heel slippage. Once I wore them for a round, the slip went away and the bonus for these is that they're replaceable spikes. The Gallivanters are extremely comfortable, but I hated that those little nubs picked up absolutely everything (leaves, grass, mud) and were almost impossible to get off.

Like @Minarets, I initially didn't love the look of any of the premier's except the Tarlow, the packard has really grown on me and am considering ordering a pair of the customs.

I’ve always thought footjoy has had funky sizing. I wear a standard width 14 in regular running shoes, 13D in dress shoes, 13W in my FJ ProSL Carbons and 13 Mediun in Icon Blacks.

Never would I have thought I’d need a Wide width shoe.

I just tried on a pair of Premiers 13  Medium. They fit perfect.  Weird I wear a 13W in ProSL Carbon.

Has anyone tried the spikeless version of the Premier?

I recently got a pair of the all navy blue and they seem great.  Only had them out twice so I still need to break them in a little more but I really haven't noticed a difference from the spiked Premieres in terms of traction if that's your concern.  I wear a 10 in the FJ and think I would need an 11 in the Gallivanters.  10.5 felt too tight in the toe box for me and I dont think I have a wide foot.  Same thing in my older SL Pro though, I have a 10, a 10.5 and a 10w.  The 10w is the most comfortable in those for me, with the 10r being the least.  Too squeezy on the foot.

Just read through this thread and I am shocked. The premiers to me felt so cheap, almost like plastic and just weren't very comfortable. The gallivanter feel like a substantially better shoe in my opinion. From feel and looks I didn't think there was much comparison. I'm clearly in the minority though! It is all subjective I guess.

Not sure if OP still wants an opinion or if he's made his choice (probably has) but I find myself wearing the gfores a lot more than my premieres. I find them more comfortable for my foot but I would definitely try both on since I have found the gfore sizing to be inconsistent a little across different lines. The best shoes I have are the longwing gallavanters. The embossed gallavanters I have fit tighter in the same size, similar to the premieres and seem to be more narrow. I do think overall the gfores are better shoes but it's close enough where if you hate the look of the gfores and like the premieres, you can't go wrong with the premieres.

Bought a pair of Gallivanters on World Wide Golf Shops site, really looked forward to getting them.  When they arrived, they looked so dang good I couldn't wait to try them on.  When I did, they were super tight in the toe box with an actual sock on... I was pretty bummed because I think the shoe looks fantastic but I made a judgement call and brought them back to my local store and they don't stock G4.  I figured I'd try the Premieres.  Put them on, walked around and realized how much better of an overall fit they were... brought them home.  Looking forward to getting them on the course, but I may grab some G4 at some point for comparison.

This is my issue as well. Went a whole size up but still too tight in the toe box. Found them for $80 at TJMaxx so it was a really good deal too. Guess I'll keep searching for a deal on wides

Bummer.  I am really enjoying the Premieres.  Much better fit overall and will continue to use them as long as I can afford them.

These seem to be some of the best premium, widely available shoes to us golfers.   Anyone have both?   I would think the Gallivanters have more comfort? Their heel padding and insole I would think would give them an edge.   Anyone want to chime in on quality? Fit, comfort?

compared to each other.

im aware there are fanboys of each but anyone tried both and have opinions?
