Bridgestone Golf Ball - Recommendation Issue

Landy

Recommended Posts

Hello - Was looking for a low spinning ball and have always been a fan of Bridgestone.  My driver SS is 87-90.

Went back to the BS site and tried the ball selector.  No matter what I chose it always gave me either the Tour B RXS or the E12 Contact.

Is this site pushing these two due to inventory issues?  Just odd that whether I put in PV1, AVX, ZStar, Z-XV, TP5X, TP5 the RXS appeared.

And if I put in QST, NXT Tour, Tour Soft, QT, only the E12 Contact.

Anyone else experience this?

I'm the same speed as you  I like the E12 contact.  Good all around ball.

Thank you - But I am wondering why not matter what ball you choose the same two options are being offered.

The AVX to the PV1X arent the same performing ball, neither is the ZStar to the XV or the TP5 to the X, so why the offering?  Just odd...

The primary factor is swing speed. If you don’t have the ~105mph threshold, it will never select a BX or BXS.

The second factor is “ball-level”. If you give it a high-end ball, it will select the B-level model.

Try the E12 contact regardless of your current ball.

You definitely have to mess around with the other fields besides current ball or it will just be a default ball based on ball level as @Jeff58 mentioned. I assume the default ball is based on some kind of "best for most golfers" determination they've made but there's no telling. There isn't a swing speed field (and they wouldn't expect most users to know that value) but it looks like they use the driver distance value for that. Changing the performance preference field (distance, accuracy, or spin) also has an impact on the results.

the type of ball you play has zero effect on the ball it recomends. the parameters regarding feel, distance ect mainly effect the recommendation.

try the chromesoft, you will not be disappointed. that swing speed is perfect for the CS

Thank you for the insight.  Noted and I guess the RXS it is.  Stay safe.

It seems like the ball you play has some sort of impact because it makes you select that first and immediately provides a recommendation.  It's probably something as basic whether you say you play a urethane or a non-urethane ball (it specifies urethane or surlyn if you expand the "My current ball" section).  Changing the other options seems to override that fairly quickly though.

Maybe Bridgestone uses some secret algorithm that calculates how many users they steal away from other major ball manufacturers .

I'm sure that they collect data on every combination that gets entered.  I don't know how informative that would be to them since folks probably just play around with it a bit.  I figured out that the when you select your current ball, it definitely makes the default selection based on whether you picked a urethane ball or not.  If you pick Pro V1 (urethane ball), it gives gives you the Tour B RXS.  If you pick Velocity (surlyn ball), it gives you E12 Contact.  I played around with the page using developer tools (F12) and changed Pro V1 to surlyn and Velocity to urethane. The recommendations were reversed.

Personally I put zero faith in their ball selector.  I’m a 100mph guy and they always recommend the RXS.  However, I get my best distance numbers with the Tour BX.  The current BX also spins on par with the BXS and the ProV1x which is plenty for me.

It's always best to try to test yourself.  It looks like the tool will only give you the Tour BX if you select a urethane ball, over 270 for distance, and select distance or accuracy (can't pick spin or leave it blank).  Of course I didn't try every combination but I didn't find any others that gave that result.

I finally ran through my supply of 2015 E6 and had to get some new balls.  I tried the new E6 and the performance off the tee was no where near the same.  LOTS more spin.  The 2015 E6 seemed to be very forgiving and that seems to be gone.  Does anyone have a suggestion to try out that will better mimic the side spin correction of the 2015 E6?  Thanks in advance

Thought I'd give this a small bump.

Does anyone know if the online Bridgestone fitting goes off of driver carry distance or driver total distance when using the recommendation tool?
