Hybrid shaft characteristics for launch

Gaming a super hybrid stock stiff (turned down to 16* Tensei pro orange). My Arccos tells me it is too close in distance to my sub70 3H (18*, soft stepped proforce v2 black 8F5.). Wondering if moving the super to a lower kick point shaft like kbs will help me regain some distance, especially off the turf (can get 230-240 from tee) or if I just need to play with loft? Launch for 3H is solid. Strike and launch with the super is hit and miss.

Well I’d figure out why that is because that’s probably your answer. Arrcos is great but if you hit your super hybrid 235 on a good strike and 215 on a bad strike and you’re hitting 90% bad strikes, arrcos will reflect the poor strikes more then the true distance.

Shaft could be the reason for your poor strikes but that’s hard to say without knowing  much  about you.

Not impossible but unlikely to get that much change with a shaft profile change - plus there are a lot of potential negative effects IF you actually like the feel of the shaft.    Loft and playing length are the two bigger factors one should look at to tweak the distance gaps.  Maybe shaft weight - but even that can can be a bit inconsistent with actual gains and also have other negative effects in accuracy or consistency.

Agreed with these guys above. I would add the following:

1) A low lofted 2H is a demanding club to hit that requires speed. There is a real chance that you might be at your ceiling there regardless of setup and are experiencing some distance compression, but like @cpelli92 implied, poor strike consistency will be the biggest factor here.
2) I would put the same shaft that is in your 3H into the 2H. Maybe soft step it twice? You want to narrow in on the things that work for you though and it if that shaft agrees with you in the 3H then it is worth trying out in the 2H. I'm a bit confused by how you have it listed in your signature though. "F3" is a UST designation for Regular flex, but you also state "soft stepped Xstiff", which would be the F5 version. Some clarification there would be good.
3) Gather some specs on these two clubs. Length, swingweight, and total weight at minimum. I'll bet there is something in there that explains the difference in results, likely the 2H being either too light and/or too long. The Pro Orange hybrid is both lighter and has a higher balance point, so i'd bet its a weight issue.

Thank you all. It could be my speed from the deck is not great since tee it ok (plus teeing up gives me more launch). When I saw my fitter for checking my driver set up, he said my super was a good fit for me as well and told me to just work on my swing. I guess this is me being impatient.

@Valtiel, you have seen my swing (haven’t posted in a while but put a lot of work in), would a fw benefit me more than a hybrid in this case, even something the same loft as my 3H? I am starting speed training since I also recognized that is an issue. I was at dgs trying a epic speed 3w and at max was getting 185 carry and 30-35 yards of roll. Some of those were also heel shanks so I know I was likely swinging too long of a shaft. The 3H is an f5, I need to edit my signature. That was a typo that never fixed. I have recently added an extra 5G to the super but have only gone out a few times since then to really try it out.

Is the 3H hitting too long or is the 2H not hitting long enough? I'd be comparing the 3H to the 4i before making any decisions. As for a FW, I retired my 3W, replaced by my 2H, because it works just as well off the tee and better off the deck. However, I also increased the shaft length of the 2H by 1.5 inches, making it closer to the 3W length.

16 to 18 degrees more than likely isn't go to result in much more than a 10 yard gap for a similar style club regardless of what you do.  You'd probably want to increase the loft gap between the clubs more than anything, on top of having a shorter shaft in the higher lofted club.

4i when hit well is 205 club.

in hindsight I could just hold onto the super and just use it as a second tee club.

Love my 90gram Fujikura Atmos TS Black shaft in my favorite club in my bag…a worn out PXG Gen2 0317 19 hybrid turned to the lowest setting (and most open). It’s my longest fairway option 235carry-245total and super consistent flight for my swing.

Always thought based off my driver preference in shafts tending to be tipped “blue” profiles stiff tip, softer middle, and stiffer handle section that it would translate to my hybrid weapon. It wasn’t till I was fitted on a GC4, that I saw the immediate difference going to a “black” stiff, stiff, stiff lowest kick-type hybrid shaft. Just a better match and more consistent/ repeatable for me.

I never hit the hybrid off a tee, only on the deck and when I need the same yardage off the tee I hit my 17* driving iron with a steel shaft in the 115gram range thats more consistent for placement.

For the OP, I would say don’t be off put to try opposite shaft types to “stiffen” or “firm” up the feeling of the lofted hybrid and do not be surprised if a different profile type shaft works better.

As mentioned total club length plays a big role as well as swing weight for your tendencies. Good luck

Take a look at a Fujikura Vista Pro Graphite Hybrid Shaft.

I am trying to replace my 15-year-old King Cobra Baffler DWS hybrids that have Aldila NV-HL 65g shafts.   These Aldila shafts give me a nice high ball flight.

The folks at Golfworks told me that the Fujikura shaft has a similar soft tip for high ball flight as the Aldila shafts in my Cobra hybrids.

So far, based on limited testing, the Fuji shaft is performing like the Aldila shaft.
