For those who have owned or currently own a 4 wood. How does the 17 degree compare for you guys? I never owned either and curious how they compare. Are these just great off the tee and into par 5's? if i was to get the 17 degree do you need to get a higher launching shaft in it for par 5 shots? I currently just have a 2 iron after my 4 and Im not sure if I should go 4 wood and then maybe the 19 degree UW or go UW in my 3/4 wood spot and get maybe a 7 wood behind my 2 iron. Appreciate any feedback

I played a 15 degree Titleist fairway wood that I typically had lofted at 16.5*. As a leftie I could only get the 19* UW. Its replaced my fairway wood. It goes about 10 yards shorter but much more accurate on good hits and miss hits. I can easily hit it off turf too. I rarely hit my fairway wood off the turf. I have a Ventus blue in mine and love it.

I replaced the stock shaft with a Motore F1 7s, and it's a very flat ball flight.  It's great off the tee, and good off the deck with accuracy for me.  It does get up in the air quickly, but I want a slightly higher flight.  I'm going to pull it at some point this week and put a mid-launch shaft in it to give me that slightly higher ball flight I want.  I'm deciding between a Diamana S+ Limited 70s or a Diamana AV Raw Orange 75s.  I like the Motore when I'm swinging well, but I have to work a little harder to load it than I would like to.

It goes on average further than my 4 wood, and keeps up with my 13 degree 3 wood. It’s a beast.

i will say, today I cut it down 1/2 an inch, added 3 grams to the head and it’s now on a completely different league. I’m hitting it 250-260 without the dreaded no spin hooks. In the thousands of clubs I’ve owned this might be the very first true game changer for me.

What shaft do you play in it? And how does it work for you into par 5’s? want something i can be able to stop somewhat and not rolling forever getting there in two. Currently have a 2 iron already for those low runner shots

I just got the UW 19*, lefty only option.  I’m trying to get a club in between my TS2 16.5* turned down to 15.75* and my Adams Pro 20* hybrid.  Took it out today and it’s really good.  I will agree with everyone on here that’s it’s hot.  On multiple holes I hit multiple balls with the TS2 and UW from the tee and fairway.  The UW is within 5 yds of the TS fairway, but easier to hit and control.  The only issue is I play a cut and the UW didn’t want to cut, but rather go straight which is a pull for me.  I adjusted to aim straighter down the line and it was a slight cut.

Now I’m trying to figure out if I use the UW and get rid of the TS2.  If given the option I would go with Driver, UW 17* and 21*.

Pulling this topic back up. As I approach the golf season I’m thinking of replacing my 4w, which is my longest non-driver club, with the 17 degree UW. Anyone with further feedback on the UW as fairway replacement?

I have been playing the OG UW 17/19/21* since they were released. I do not carry any traditional fairway woods. The 17* will replace a 3/4 wood for sure. I did not get along with traditional fairway woods from the deck, but I hit hybrids very well. So, this is the perfect head type and playing length for me. I use them a lot during the each round from the tee box, deck and rough with no issues. They are pretty much point and hit for me. I find these clubs to be extremely versatile, rocket launchers and no plans of changing them out.

I have an Paradym 3HL (16.5*) and Epic Speed 15* that cannot find their way back into my bag due to the 17* UW.

Good luck!!

That does seem to be the play from a gapping standpoint, especially since the adjustable weight gives you a lot of wiggle room to make the 21* playing length shorter, the 17* longer, or a mix of both.

I wonder if just chopping down a 3w to the same length as a 17 UW would get you similar results.  43+” depending on the brand vs 41.5”.  That’s a big difference.

The Apex UW is top of my wantlist right now. I do not hit woods (especially a 3) and this got my 90% of the distance and infinitely more control. I don't play a lot of courses where the 10-15 yards mean that much, so the distance loss is not that big of a deal.

I'm curious to try the Cleveland Halo version, as I'd rather not spend $300 on a hybrid.

I have a 17, I swap that and my 5w. Working through figuring out what I am going to bag.

The hzrdus black is a little loose for that club IMO, I may throw a Ventus Red in it.

I've had my 17* UW in the bag now for going on 2 years and I love it.  I have always been able to hit my FW pretty well off the deck but when I compared the 17* UW to my 15* 3 wood they were very similar in distance but the UW was just super easy to hit and control from pretty much anywhere.  It was kind of a no-brainer move for me.  In fact, I ended up dropping my 3 wood and going to a stronger lofted option (13*) for a secondary off-the-tee option.  Then I go down to my 17* UW, hybrid, 4 iron, and so on.

Paired up with the Ventus Black 7X it's an absolute rocket launcher.

Played the 17 degree U wood in place of a 3 wood all year last year and couldn't be happier. Way more consistent contact and ball flight.  I still was covering 240 on a solid shot and pushing 260 when swinging as hard as I can.

Ironically, I went to club champion to hit 3 woods at the end of the season to try and help with a short par 4 at my home course with a 255 yard carry.  Even at the most dialed 3 wood, it was dead even in terms of distance with the 17 degree U wood. (Ended up buying a BRNR mini driver for the hole in question).

Haven't tried the 2nd gen UW.

I currently have a rotation for the third spot in my bag after mini driver that shakes up something like this

65% of the time a 17 degree OG UW is in the bag.

25% of the time a 16.5 degree epic speed 4 Wood is in the bag.

10% of the time a 17 degree Stealth DHY is in the bag.

The UW both launches lower and spins less than the 4 Wood. The 4 Wood produces faster ball speed.

Had a great honeymoon period with the 17* but after a month or so I couldn't depend on it.

My misses were catastrophic. If you draw the ball and miss off the toe, forget this club exists. Low, left, with zero spin. No forgiveness but also really really hot out of the centre, so depending on where I hit it on the face it's going 220y or 280y.
