Putting a ball in scramble is on the lip then another putted ball hits it in . I was at a event and someone said it’s counts . I don’t know the ruling Thank you

The way my group plays, no.

 

In my scramble group, just as in "real" golf, if the shot originates from OFF the green, hits a ball already on the green and the ball just hit goes in, then yes, it counts.

 

But it can't knock the prior ball, lying there, in.

 

If the shot originates from ON the green, then just like "real" golf, the ball can't hit another ball. If it does, it's NOT holed.

That's not quite right.  If you play from the green and your ball hits another ball at at rest and goes into the hole, it is holed just the same.  In stroke play, however, there is a 2 stroke penalty for hitting the other ball.  No penalty in match play but your opponent feels pretty stupid for having left his ball there.

In the example given in the OP it is the ball at rest that was knocked in by the moving ball - the moving ball didn't go in.

 

So the ball previously at rest must be replaced, no ?

 

I know that in "real" golf the player hitting the 2nd ball gets the general penalty, but I confess I never thought about it going in - good to know. 👍

OK, so just to confirm here, in STROKE play, if I putt from the putting green and hit another player's ball and my ball goes in, my ball is holed but I add 2. So if my putt was for birdie 3, I made 3+2PS for a bogey 5. Correct ?

 

But your point about match play. Suppose I'm on the green, say15 feet from the hole and my opponent has pitched his ball, from say, 30 yards and knocks it close.

 

While he's making his way to the green I decide to putt (since I'm away). I hit his ball, my ball goes in - so I made my birdie and win the hole ?

 

Can my opponent tell me to wait so he can mark his ball before I putt ? Must I wait if he tells me to wait ?

The last bit is really important.  If your opponent says he wants to mark his ball, you must give hime the time to do so.   If after he has said this, you putt before he marks and lifts, you lose the hole.  [Rule 15.3c]

A "scramble" is not covered by the RoG. Therefore the question is unanswerable.

Simple answer without all the "but ifs" and other games.  The ball that was knocked into the hole does not count, it must be replaced. Done

Agreed. Clearly doesn't count. Original ball should have been marked/moved prior to the next putt (or in some casual scrambles, a putt on the lip would be assumed "good" and then the others would be taking a run at the birdie)

if they are playing 8 some with 2 4 man teams , it does not count
