Kananaskis or Silvertip?

Kingdog

Depends on what kind of courses you like.  Like many have said, Silvertip has a lot of sloped fairways and elevation changes with being right on the side of a mountain. A lot more target golf.  Kananaskis will be more "flat" with less elevation and undulations but still has beautiful backdrops.  Both are great and you can't go wrong with either.  Depending on when you go, the construction on Silvertip may be completed.  Enjoy the rounds.

Another vote for Kananskis - be cognizant of drive time if you are basing out of Banff, though. ~2hr round trip.

We would hit it the first day on our way from Calgary to our airbnb in Canmore. Yeah it's looking like most agree Kan is the better course. Maybe we might hit Silvertip for a later afternoon round the day we play Stewart if everyone feels up to it.

Kananaskis has two courses, both are really good. They are busy so you have to book those far in advance. I am in the minority, I love Silvertip. It is a bit wonky, with lots of ups and downs, lefts and rights. You never have a flat lie. But I enjoy it, you are playing golf right on the side of a mountain. Here are a few photos of Silvertip. At the very least, its worth going up there to have a beer or lunch on the patio, world class view from the patio.

Yes, for one thing Kananaskis is quite a bit cheaper, especially for Alberta residents. I have played all the mountain courses (Jasper, Banff, Greywolf, etc.) and Kananaskis is a pretty special place thats for sure. Below are some pictures from Mt Lorette at Kananaskis, it's pretty nice.

While I haven’t played either, I recently moved to Calgary and almost unanimously everyone recommends Kannanaskis. In fact, most have told me they would rather play Kannanaskis over Banff.

Don't take golf course advice from those people. Kan is perfectly good, Banff is world class and architecturally significant.

Now if they want to factor price into that fine, money is different for everyone so you can't really knock them on that but if they're talking just golf course 1 on 1 they're wrong

Planning a guy's trip to the Rockies this upcoming summer. Playing a 4 course rotation with Banff,Stewart Creek and Greywolf locked in. Trying to get the 4th course. Torn between Silvertip and Kananaskis. Heard Silvertip had some construction going on that may be leaning me toward Kananaskis. What are your thoughts?

Silvertip more of a wow factor... Kananaskis is great, but flat'ish and slightly boring with the exception of the incredible views IMO.... personally I would probably play Silvertip if you are planning a golf trip. Silvertip is definitely quirky but an experience. Pack some drinks, and don't complain about bad bounces and luck, and you will love it.

One more vote for Kananaskis. Two absolute gems that are good and close. I like Stewart Creek, but I wouldn't give them a nickel to play Silvertip ever again.
