True aim ball marker

Cut out today for my first round of the year and my first round with this ball marker. One of my playing partners commented that he didn't think it was legal because it was an alignment aid. I think he was just saying that because I was draining so many putts lol.

Had 26 puts today and sank a good four pots or more from that testy 6 to 10 ft distance. This is usually a week spot for me..

I did keep it simple. I did my aim point read and then use the slashes on the marker to represent the number of fingers I would give the slope. Seem to work very well. I have not tried the chart yet. But if today is any indication I won't need to.

Great stuff man. Love the Aimpont with this marker. Makes it so easy and efficient. Congrats on the great putting round.

@SE Gamer  Kudos for adding the magnet to the marker. I attach a regular marker to it so my playing partners don’t have to putt with the huge marker in the way.

Smart man. I need to do that. I get complaints. Lol.

Does anyone have the old Aimpoint charts? Presumably you could correlate some of these break numbers in the chart to the Aimpoint charts and figure out roughly what the hash marks correlate to, and for what stimp.

Product development idea - put different hashes on each side, perhaps one @ 9 stimp and one @ 11.

That's a pretty good idea but I think from earlier in this thread, I posted some pretty detailed calculations about inches of break per degree of slope per stimp. I have to look back but my guess would be the difference on the actual marker wouldn't be that much, such that the actual "kerf" of the tool that is used to make the lines might be wider than the difference in one stimp marker to the other.

I might post some more thoughts later... But in summary I stopped using it, and it's pretty much just for one reason but maybe some others here have found work arounds. I'm actually back to aim point but I'm the future I actually want to try to have a big matrix in my score card holder more in terms of inches of break. I'm finding even aimpoint is too crude at times because you're essentially relying on your finger width to somehow perfectly correlate with the slope %... I have a green contour map for my home course and I'm constantly playing too much break even at max arm length. Guess the solution would be make the read closer to the hole (Infront of ball) but then I need to constantly adjust where I stand and ideally I'd want less variables.

OK I'm on a PC so I can type a little more with less effort

In a nut shell, this table is the reason why I don't think the marker is something that is truly going to be effective for me, personally.

image.png.8e2b13b70a362495e3e372bb06cca431.png

Maybe most of us play closer to 8-9 stimp greens, but it's still a relatively good example of how different a putt plays downhill vs up hill. Even though I may look or feel "moderate break", if I'm roughly 45* from the break line on a 5 or 6% slope... Not only does the marker not have enough lines ('m guessing, to be honest I did not verify this mathematically, please check me), but to "see" the same thing on that angle but have such a big change in the amount of break you'd need to play is too much of a variable for me. At least with aim point, I can technically move my fingers closer to/further away to adjust for green speed.

As a more logical/non-feel based & linear putter, for some reason this makes it harder for me. I'd feel much more 'at ease' having a booklet with a giant table that I can quickly reference for amount of break (in inches or feet) to play with respect to putt distance and "Effective stimp" with flat being the native green stimp, and then any making adjustments based on location in radial degrees from the break line.

I think this marker is the most effective and quick way to line up putts on greens that are pretty flat without slopes over 3% or so. Unfortunately, I play two courses that have several greens with large chunks of the green that are up to 6-7% and even with "slower" greens, is almost comical how much putts can break, even when they are uphill. Here's one fun par3, where the mean green's keeper likes to put the flag about 15 paces on in the middle. If you are unlucky enough to end up back right with a front flag.... good luck. 4 lines on the marker won't cut it, especially come September when the grass is starting to generally get healthy again and they'll cut them a little lower.

I agree that the marker isn’t a “perfect” alignment everytime. There is too much variable if you don’t get it dead straight. What I have seen and felt though is it atleast helps me align it better than before.

I have actually found recently if I don’t line it up and just go off of feel and don’t even read the putt I am almost just as good.

Not trying to take anything away from @SE Gamer, he did great work here. I just wanted to throw it out there that I have the actual True Aim Marker, and because of its high price, have been afraid of losing it, so I designed and 3d printed my own version as well.

I have embedded a magnet in it too.

I spent a good amount of time making sure the quality is really good, that the colors are close, and that the sizing is nearly identical. ( I made some small changes so that it has the optimal print settings)

Here are some images comparing my print to the original True Aim marker. I also posted these on Etsy as I plan on offering different 3d printed golf accessories.

My next project is an attachment for a club and ball washer, like this, https://a.co/d/9LrZlAh, to easily attach to a clicgear push cart.

Very late to the party, but just saw a post from Bryson using Tim's marker and remembered scanning the first page of this some time ago. Don't suppose there will be any more batches? Speed is great for me, start line, not as much.
