... or spend more time on the golf course and in the kitchen...

I played Tuesday and about half way thru was thinking about what method I’d use to sell my clubs 🤔… What I need is more time on the range 1st DMM. I was going 2/3x a week regularly. Honestly I’m just hot n cold w/golf. Right now just not playing much.

Aren't you glad that a week ago I posted that we have been deprived of photos of

food that comes out of the Bellingham kitchen TS? It happened pretty frequently in the Grille, but it seemed to have taken my coaxing to get his professional looking dishes to appear here in the Lounge. 😂

Oh yeah. Love the variety of his egg dishes. I put that effort in for dinners. My b’fast is 4 egg omelette w/cheese, cheerios and OJ like 95% of the time! 😝

These are but simple phone photos taken in the ambient light of my kitchen or patio.

One of my specialties is directing/shooting restaurant/food commercials.  Then I pull out all the stops:  Backlighting, soft front or side-lighting, reflector cards, cucalorus (shadow casting device), artificial smoke, various colored gels on the lighting, mirrors to reflect light onto a single lettuce leaf or lemon, etc., water spritzer and of course, food stylists.

Most of the time you wouldn’t want to eat the food in the commercials because of the stuff they do to make it look good and last during the shoot!

Strange you don’t get muscle soreness anymore. I’ve been lifting consistently for 20+ years and still get muscle soreness.

Not to get into pepperT territory, but I have been working out seriously since being a track and high jump guy starting in junior high- then age  17-30 Olympic lift competitor ( yes it was 3 lifts with standing press until 1972)-after that  deadlift competition ( didn't get into 3 lift powerlifting ) as i was still running middle distance races

I still workout a lot- for me the key to avoiding muscle soreness is a light high rep set after working a muscle group to really get good circulation going

Common sense says when adding a new exercise take it easy and work into it

My coach used to say there is no such thing as overtraining- just under recovery

Most people can't over train- they just tire out from too many worthless low intensity sets and reps

Of course most people never progress either...

Oh I definitely take it easy and work my way into it. Went super light on the progressive lunges and only did 3 sets. I personally don’t associate the muscle soreness w/overtraining. If anything I prob undertrain  these days! 😂 I have numerous Nationally accredited certifications and made my living in the industry.

... Not sure if I posted this before but I did a Breakfast Bacon, Egg and Cheese biscuit Bite and Smile commercial for Hardees. The basic take a big bite and smile like you are in taste heaven. Start with the Glycerin sprayed on the entire thing to give it a sheen and to be fair taste bad but not regurgitively bad. Next, after several takes it was clear that good biscuits leave crumbs on your lips so they brainstormed and came up with ... dipping the unseen rear of the biscuit in cold water so it turned to mush just before the take. And here is where it gets to be a ton of fun.

... You take a huge bite chewing and smiling in ecstasy and then the director says cut and you spit it all out into a can sitting next to you and out of camera view. Takes a long time to get the next take ready with primping the product and getting things just right and with this particular shoot, the clients were off the chart picky so we did 87 takes over 6 hours. To say the spit can started to stink, the mush started to make me want to throw up and after about 20 takes I really didn't want another bite. But continued to look like I was loving every one I took.

I once experienced a food commercial nightmare for one of my crew members.  Deep-fried frog legs were the culprit.  The cook was correct in deep-frying the frog legs until the batter was perfectly golden brown.  No other special treatment of the entre except for lighting.  When the shoot ended one crew member asked if he could eat the frog legs.  When he voraciously bit into one of the legs imagine his surprise when he discovered it was still raw!

Sorry chisag about your 87 take ordeal.  I had an attorney client who insisted on speaking on-camera for 29 seconds.  I wrote the script, but since he's an attorney, he modified it.  Attorneys are experts in that way. 😄  Well, the attorney (we shot in his office) had just been requested by the judge to appear in his chambers.  So he was terribly distracted and rushed.  Kept flubbing things up.   It took 38 takes, my personal record number.  Not really connected, but 4 years later he was disbarred for charging and billing clients for more hours than there are in a day.

An aside to chisag, I always tried to keep the client from attending the shoot, because, like attorneys, they know more than you do.

.... So true. I did a commercial for Time Life when DVD's first came out and my only line was hold up a DVD and say  "How do they get so much information on only one disk?" I can't remember how many takes but the client was never happy. Director came to me and said "Every take has been spot on. I am waving my arms and making gestures so the client thinks I am giving you direction but just keep doing what you are doing" and on his way back about halfway he shouted "Just try it and see if it works" LOL. Well the client still wasn't happy and the most awesome director took a chair and put it right beside me and just off camera and said "You direct Sam". After 2 takes and being extremely uncomfortable she was happy with my performance. 🤪

Totally funny!  And your last two takes were probably not dissimilar to the previous ones...

Another aside.  I once had a non-actor spontaneously extend a line in the script that added a second to the commercial.  But it was sooooo good I had to use it.  I went in and re-wrote the voiceover to shorten it by a second.  It was a one word line.  He was supposed to say, "Poppyseed!"  But in his older brain there was the phrase, "Poppycock, poppycock!"  So he said it that way with perfect emphasis.  It was accidental genius on his part.

Also, he was a great sport when I requested he not use his walker in the bagel bocce wide-angle scene.  It would have pulled TV viewers out of the commercial.

An aside to an aside to an aside, chisag.  The client in this case only requested that his commercial be off-beat, eye catching and use his favorite customer from New York, Sid.  And the client did not attend the shoot.  😄  He trusted my demo reel.

May be an image of text that says 'Last night I was sitting on the sofa watching TV when I heard my wife's voice from the kitchen, "What would you like for dinner my love, chicken, beef or lamb?" said, "Thank you, I'll have chicken please" She replied, "You're having soup you fat bastard, was talking to the cat"'

Why was the cork left in on the bottle of red? Because the audience would figure that is how two elderly guys at the park would have their bottle of wine?

I liked the black and white to start and then change to color when the commercial showed the business's name. Their slogan was "the best cheapest meal in Bellingham." Gets the point across.

Is that where you buy your bagels when you have a hankering for one?

I think the two actors nailed it for you.

Thanks for showing some of your past work DMM.  We all welcome it.

The host of the Lounge would like to request please that you share the commercial you did for one of your favorite local restaurants/watering holes. You know the one that has the cute gal and friends towards the end. It had very colorful images of cocktails too if I remember correctly.

Let's see their art deco interior again.

The one you shared in the Grille

I bet a thousand that the Brussels would appear. Thanks for providing me with a winning ticket. 😄

Our Connecticut guy likes his steak topped with the rich goodness that is pieces of jumbo crab and delicious hollandaise sauce. Garlic mashed is you , Yukon Gold mashed is my favorite. Any quality mashed rocks. Key lime is mighty high on my  list of favorite desserts as well.

Thanks CS.
