Philly Public Courses

Hey everyone,

 

Looking for some suggestions for public courses near Philly. I am pretty much willing to pay up to ~$100 if the course is worth it. I'll be in town for work for two weeks and hoping to get a few rounds in. Only courses I've played in this area of the country are: Radley Run, Rock Manor, White Clay Creek. Hoping to stay within about 20 miles of Philly.

Glen Mills is typically ranked as one of the best public courses in the state. Broad Run is a good track as well. If you’re willing to make a little bit of a drive, Wyncote is another really good option.

You can add Glen Mills + Broad Run to that list.  
They might be a little more than 20 miles.

1. Glen Mills

2. Broad Run

3. Riverwinds (overpriced but greens roll nice by mid summer)

4. Pennsauken (good conditioned muni)

 

Those would be the best within reasonable distance of Center City

Pennsauken looks to be in great shape this spring.

 

Glen Mills is top notch

 

Jeffersonville GC is a sleeper

Right - never played but Jeffersonville is a Ross and has had some social media hype over the past couple years

Jeffersonville would be my first choice by far, followed by Glen Mills. 

 

Five Ponds is underrated IMO and would also be a solid choice as well.

 

Melrose is a hidden, historic gem on the edge of city limits, it's had conditioning problems off and on through the years and needs major tree removal work, but I've heard conditions are on an upswing recently.

 

Forget the City of Philadelphia munis until the Cobbs Creek renovation is done unless you are completely desperate and/or a completist: Walnut Lane, Juniata, Byrne, etc.

I would agree - Melrose is decent with old school bones, I would rank it in tier 2 below those others previously mentioned. With the assumption of tier 3 being dog tracks like the city munis. Byrne would be the top of the tier 3 list.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I ended up getting sent elsewhere for work this week but I’m sure my travels will take me to Philly again soon. I’ll keep this thread saved.

This is random, but if anyone wants to join me tomorrow morning 7:00 a.m. at Jeffersonville, I booked a two-some online (couldn't book one) and am solo.
