Counterbalance putter grips

Guys, this horse is dead but help me beat it just a little more!  Like all the other sheep I’m interested in counterbalanced putters.  I’m currently building one for my wife.  She has a retired golo that isn’t exactly what I’d like to use, but should get us close enough to get a proof of concept/see how she likes it and find out if it is something worth spending more money and time on.  I’ve ordered a 15”Winn pistol grip that weighs 128g.  My plan is to extend the putter to about 37” and add lead tape to the head until it feels nice.  My wife will not give a putter without a fairly slim grip an opportunity so that rules out a lot of the grip offerings.  Any suggestions for a thin grip in the 15-17” range.  I can always adjust weight with lead tape or a steel rod or whatever if the shape is right.

Is going long the right course of action or is that something you just need to try and experiment with?  It would be very easy to get a SS pistol gt tour or 1.0 with countercore, add lead tape to the head and find the weight she likes in the grip.  I suppose the only real reason I’m choosing to extend the putter rather than go that route is because of mimicry…how have you guys found linger counterbalance putters performed against standard length?
Last question, and not grip related (I tried to search for this other stuff but couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for, but admit to not searching for this part).  Has anyone had success counterbalancing a blade?  She prefers that look and if this experiment works out I’m wondering if that is even an option or if I would need to look for something like a double wide or some sort of mallet with a blade shape.

thank you all very much for any advice or any first hand experience you have had with counterbalancing putters!

I too would love a thin, CB grip, but it doesn't seem to exist.  Some discussion here on grip suggestions

As for CB methodology, I prefer the longer 37/38" grip.  I didn't like the heavy mass concentrated in one spot, but YMMV.

And you could certainly CB a blade.  Obviously getting headweight up would be the biggest challenge.   I think most people go for mallets for the added stability.  Rickie was quoted as saying the putter almost swung itself.  I would imagine a blade would be a little more twitchy with a longer, heavier grip.

I think a good potential work around is buying a Rosemark 1.38" Lite Neo and adding in counter weights.

The Lite Neo is only 65g but 13" long, they have a regular 1.38" Neo that is 112g but only 11" long. You can easily throw in a 50g plug at the base of the grip and at the top of the shaft for example to go 165g total in the handle with a slim-ish grip.

You can also return the grips if your wife doesn't like them.

I have two counterbalanced wide blades. One is the odyssey tank 1w, the other is a Brandon Matthew wide blade model. That one came in at 400g, the tank I added weight. I tried several different grips but settled with the wrist lock SS, but I don’t actually use the wrist lock feature, I just liked the feel of the shape of the grip.  I hadn’t come across that Rosemark grip though, that’s very intriguing to me

Garsen Quad Tour 17" might be one to look at as well.

That’s the one I want her to like!  I’ve got a quad tour pistol on my link.1 though and she doesn’t like it.  Truth be told she doesn’t want to change putters at all lol.  She likes her newport2 with pistolini grip a lot.  I think it could help her though, so she is being a good sport.

You may want to order a couple of different size bullet weights from the golfworks and drop them in the butt of the shaft and see which is best for her.
she could stick with her preferred grip and see if the extra weight in the butt end would help her hand path

more weight is supposed to help avoid the hands moving away too much in the backswing to avoid a slice type stroke

You can absolutely counterbalance a blade.  I have a Sub70 007 that I extended and counterbalanced as an experiment and it works just fine.  Also experimenting with an Anser style for a little less toe hang.  It also works just fine.  No issues with either one.

Yes! had a Callie midsize that was perfect for CB, if you can find one. Think it was 400 g, slightly bigger than standard. Have one in the basement ... Has a kink in the shaft. Still get it out and mess with it now and then.

Somewhere in the marriage contract is "thou shall not substitute any other putter when she has a Scotty Cameron in the bag" .....

I'm all for tinkering, but if she doesn't want to change putters why not invest in a putting lesson? Maybe do a group lesson with you and her.

This costs 19$ to give it a try.  She loves her putter and probably won’t change but is willing to see if she likes it.  She definitely doesn’t want a putting lesson.  It may or may not help but she has no interest in spending the time on that.  She is a very recreational player but willing to indulge me when I make a suggestion or want her to try something new.

I mean the counterbalance putter is gonna be a Scotty too.  Not as pretty a Scotty but it’s not like I’m asking her to try a top flight mallet…
