Oh, how far we've come ...

I've got 18 tabs open on my laptop. I'm comparing head and shaft weights of like 6 different models from 4 different brands. I'm trying to make sure everything gaps correctly. I've measured his height and WTF multiple times, with and without shoes. I'm trying to predict his next growth spurt.

My old man chopped down a set of Walter Hagen blades with S400 and was like "yup, that'll do."

I literally just told my son that we didn’t play baseball with water bottles and mom didn’t buy us Gatorade during the 3rd inning. 😂

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Certainly a bit of beauty and charm in the old days. Ignorance was bliss.

Age, height, weight & driver swingspeed?  😉

I'll bite - I've got one about a month shy of 13, 60", 80lbs, 75mph. Currently swinging 57" US Kids Tour Series.

I have some older Ping i200's that I could have reshafted if it would be better choice than any US Kids/Flynn/Prodi G.

Third swing in this video:

Based off those parameters, next set of clubs I would suggest is USKG Tour Series 60" with steel shafts. Driver, fairways and hybrid can probably be in the A-Flex area and sub-50g.  Putt with whatever works for them.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

Yep, overthinking a topic, something men of my generation shy away from.  Overthinking causes more issues than it solves.

When my son took up golf, I bought a set of old used irons, shortened them, and he was good to go until he got older.  Now, when he wants to play, he borrows my backup blades.

My son's friend is at the AJGA Rolex TOC and she is currently top 10. She has never had a lesson from anyone other than her dad and he does all of her club fittings. He just searches up stuff on YT and learns what he can to make the best decisions for her. She could get free clubs from any OEM but he pays for them himself and tweaks as necessary.

Don't fall into the fitting trap. Get educated, be flexible in what you put in the bag and be willing to abandon a poor choice.

OP here. While I appreciate the sentiment from the "go get fit" crowd, I wasn't asking for any sort of recommendations or suggestions here. It was merely an observation I found funny and thought others would relate as I'm sure there's a lot of fathers out there doing the exact same thing, especially as the holiday season approaches. My kid is 7 and even if he could make repeatable swings to warrant a fitting, he'd outgrow the results in two weeks.

(And that's completely ignoring the fact that I strongly believe most "fitters", especially those with big box credentials, are nothing more than glorified sales associates. Sure, the real good ones out there are worth their weight in gold, but those are few and far between, and their talents would be near wasted on a 7 year old.)

I'll repeat what others have said.   Leave it to the professionals and go get fit!

Looking back I'm realizing this whole tinkering has hurt more than help my kids progression as well as my wallet.   😖

The tinkering is something for us to do/obsess over, not something the kids need...

Truth here.  Just wish I could rent a bay at Club Champion...tell the guy to take a hike, while I play with all the combo's myself.

Definitely looking at the US Kids set as we've been happy with those so far. I also just ordered a demo 7 iron from Flynn Golf - Their LTX series with the KBS 560 shaft. I'll try to update on how we like it once it comes in as I could find very few reviews from that series online.
