Its a shame that this course isn't as good as their marketing department makes it seem to be. Not even a top 10 course for what they charge? Thats a joke!!!!

I'm sure @DavePelz4 could tell the story better, but the late owner once said something along the lines that his tee sheets were full, so why drop the price? And this was pre-covid IIRC.

Why not? They do claim to be the best public course in Chicagoland. Need peoples opinions if that is true if Im gonna invest the amount of money they are asking for golf. Are they full of themselves or is that for real that they provide the best golf course in Chicagoland? Why would they market themselves as being the best if in fact that was bs?

Are they or not?

Where are they claiming to be the best public course?  I'm looking at their website and see nothing on that lines.

Really? Serious? This is right on the websites homepage...

"There is not 1 single golf experience in the Chicagoland area that is even close to being on Mistwood's level... bring lots of balls, swallow your pride, don't play tips 1st time there...every single employee was helpful and cheery, A+++"

Interesting. Not one single golf experience in the Chicagoland area is a strong statement for a place not even in the top 10. Is this place for real or a joke? I want a serious answer because it disgusts me if what they are marketing is bs. If it is bs they need to be called out for it so people are not scammed. You think this is funny? Its not.

That's a review on the site written by somebody, Mistwood just posted it.  Why wouldn't they brag about good reviews?  Come on.

BTW  not sure you're really aware of ow marketing works - even if they did post this, it is the marketing departments job to sell the place to people, generate hype and business.  That's literally their job, and justification for existence in any orgnization.   If your marketing department isn't doing this, then they need to be fired.

The late Jim McWethy was an acquaintance of mine and we golfed and had drinks together a couple of times, including at Chicago Golf Club, an incredible experience.

He asked why I didn't play the course more often and I shared it was the cost. Also shared that he raised the rates every season to which he responded with he was trying to find the proper price point for the course and kept raising rates until the volume of rounds/year started to decline. He said then he'd go back a year's rates and see what happened to demand.

Post remodel, it's either in the top 10 or 15 in terms of conditioning, etc.  You also have to consider everything else that's at Mistwood and consider the practice facility, restaurant, etc.

Jim did the same thing at the dome BTW in terms of pricing, upgrading the facility, upgrading the food, etc.

I’m not sure what you expected. You’re seeking out opinions on a course. The general consensus is, “it’s very good, has several amenities, is a consensus top 10-15 course in the area, but isn’t the best or top 3.” Well, duh. Dubs hosted pro tournaments and was redesigned with the hopes of getting a U.S. Open. The Glen Club has hosted Korn Ferry and NCAA events. It’s “membership” (season pass holders) are among the worst country club wannabe people on Earth but the course is better. Mistwood’s goal when they did their major renovation was to be among the best public courses in the area. I’d say they accomplished that goal given that they’re on pretty much every list. Yet you’re upset because…they posted a positive customer review on their website? Dafuk?

This guy can't be for real.   How is somebody's opinion on something wrong?   You don't like Mistwood, that person does.   Not sure where the disconnect is here.  Seems like you've maybe had one too many irish whiskey's.

Never said I dont like it. Just think its not the best that Chicago has to offer. Cantigny for example is better and I guarantee that the majority would agree with that.

Your thoughts please.

Have gone through their website and not finding what you're "claiming" they've said. They did post awards, and those were given by others. There is a Google review posted, but that's not their words. It is stated that it's "one of the most talked about Chicago golf courses." That very same statement could be made of numerous courses, even Tanna Farms.

They was in regards to using reviews that claim this. I find it misleading as the majority would agree its not the best.

Respectfully, it's called marketing. Reviews on Google, Facebook, company/golf course website or even, gasp, GolfWRX carry credibility.  People are entitled to have an opinion and express it.  If you don't like the course, write a terrible review and then your opinion will be heard.

Well unfortunately the marketing dept at Mistwood is clueless. Decent course but definitely not better than Cantigny, Prairie Landing, even Village Links. Must I continue? I am getting really tired of bs.

Considering they sell a ton of memberships, the tee sheet is generally full, it gets a lot of recognition from golfers and magazines, and you're here going on and on and on about it, I would say their marketing department are exceeding expectations on all levels.  The only BS here is you, and your inability to be able to figure out how reviews and marketing works.  Not a single person in this thread (including people like me who aren't the biggest fans of the course!) are aligning with you on this one, I think it might be time to look inward and focus your energy elsewhere.   You've not only beat the horse to death, but you've shoved it about 10 feet into the ground at this point.

Look let me say it again, in my opinion its NOT better than Cantigny, Prairie Landing, or Village Links. Oh and just for fun lets throw in DUBS as well and Harborside. All have excellent facilities and have hosted PGA tour events and plenty of USGA qualifiers over the years.

Look I've never said Mistwood is garbage or I don't like it. Its a decent course with good food. The driving range is way too small and always beat up. They don't even let you hit off grass unless its the weekend. That place comes off as a piece of property that was too small to work with for what they were looking to build. If I'm gonna spend over $100 per round, I'd much rather go spend that $$$ at Cantigny for example which has a much larger pratice facility and 27 holes that is on a gigantic piece of land and has more character. Plus they have a really nice caddy program.

Agree? I believe you will.

Um...Harborside has NEVER hosted a PGA Tour event. NEVER.

It might be time to see an optometrist.  Google Earth shows that the Mistwood's range is 343 yards long and 159 yards wide.  That doesn't include the short game area. Cantigny's range is 353 yards long and 151 yards wide. That doesn't include the short game area either.

I've hit balls at Mistwood, over the past 15 years on occasion, and never hit off mats with the exception of after a significant rain.  Beat up?  Never.

BTW, given a choice, I'd rather play Cantigny but Mistwood is a good facility.

The SBC Senior Open on the PGA tour Champions was played at Harborside in 2002.

Mistwoods range is Mats only Monday - Thursday.

Lol wrong. The pros actually praised it as its documented that they compared it to Muirfield.

The real reason behind only hosting one event was that It was actually the last year the event took place as they lost their sponsor and decided to cancel the tournament completely from the schedule. Had nothing to do with the course. Now I will say the conditioning could be better as they do get lots of play. In that department there are better courses but from a layout standpoint the Port course is superb.

Ben Crenshaw praised it and made that comparison.  It's not a "pros" or a "they", it's one guy.  Crazy enough, Harborside's marketing department used that nugget on their website.  You probably also should be knocking the photoshopped image they use to make it look like it's closer to the skyline than it really is.

I worked that event from the late 90's until it lost it's sponsor.  Was there a 2003 it would not have been at Harborside.

You do know that I referred to it as PGA tour Champions because its ran by the PGA tour correct? Argue with me all day but you cant hide the fact that a tour event ran by the PGA tour was held there even though its 50 and over. The point is proven as they hosted a tour event.
