Anything special about Callaway Apex 18 MBs

I heard someone saying these are the best modern classic blades. What do you think? How would you rate?

Really good irons. Very strong ball speeds for me. Great narrow sole with a lot of bounce. Reasonably forgiving provided you’re not flipping at it or picking it. They want to be compressed obviously but they feel amazing and deliver strong trajectory. Well worth a look if you’re a good player.

Some of the best looking and feeling blades I’ve tested.  Will end up a classic I think.  They remind me of older Mizuno.

It is one of Callaway's best forged muscle backs.

Why did you move away from them?

Great set of blades, I have the 21 version but the 18's are a better feeling iron in my opinion.

Play lots of golf, usually every 2 to 3 years I will replace the irons,

My bags are in a constant change.

2018,2019 Callaway Apex MB's had the PERFECT sole grind, leading edge, trailing edge ... and MOST importantly ... the BEST heel grind out there.

being a slow swinger, my tendency with ALL irons is the heel biased chunk.

2018/2019 APEX MB's super smooth rounded heel grind ... along with the other sole-related grinds mentioned above on this iron ... made it soooo smooth and virtually 'chunk' proof.

 

Not to mention they were beautiful.

These irons are spectacular. I have been playing them for about a year and were my first set of blades. Extremely forgiving, distance as strong or stronger than anything and look great at address. Mine are raw and are gorgeous.

I will add that I had to put a strip of lead tape on my MBs to feel the head a bit more.

can’t beat a nice bit of lead tape

I've found most of the Callaway MBs to be surprisingly forgiving. The 2018 irons, in particular, were also quite long.

both a very nice set of blades, I think the 18’s feel softer. I will be seeing if anything replaces them in Feb when I do a full bag fitting. The reason I went for these originally was the narrow sole

The 18 feel a bit softer whereas the 21 feel more ooomph behind the hit. For me, I got better ball speeds out of the 21 compared to almost anything else. I tend to hit irons with the screw in the sweet spot better. I also got ridiculous numbers with the PXG ST GEN 4.

Yeah I always tend to like and enjoy irons with the screw on the back middle. I currently game the PXG CB. LOVE THEM. And yeah I want to try the ST as well. I'm trying to decide between the 18 or 21 mb lol so hard! 
 

And the 21 mb are gorgeous imo.

I really like the shaping of the 9i & pitching wedge on the 2021 model a little more.  However, I appreciate the 2018’s have a little more “meatiness” on the top line, especially all through the mid irons.

I believe these were endo forged, which would explain the excellent feel. Could be wrong of course but seemed to remember hearing that and played a set for quite a while, unfortunately my lack of SS made them a challenge to play properly.

I have a set of 18 xforged/mb 3-5 xforged 6-pw mb... they are really great blades. Look amazing. On center feels great soft and buttery. Off center by more feels harsh without beeing too harsh or stingy but lets you know. Distance and forgivness to me is very good for being a blade.

So i actually sold my origional set like a dum you know what... and then complained and felt bad.. my brother found a like new set for a good price and bought them for me. Same shaft and all. Not letting go this time 😢 😊 😢
