Long Weekend Golf Trip Suggestions

Looking for suggestions for a 3 day golf getaway for 2. Nothing too expensive, preferably somewhere easy to fly into with a stay and play package. Thanks

LOL! How about even the tiniest bit of info where you are located, budget, how far you want to go….I mean anything!

Just beginning to look into this for a trip that's about a year and a half away. Located in Missouri, looking at anything in the continental US. Budget isn't set in stone, just nothing ridiculously high in price. Left it wide open intentionally to keep all options on the table for now.

Two as in a romantic couple or two buddies? Makes a difference IMO.

 

Fly into Atlanta. 

 

Chateau Elan has at least two courses and you can spend the whole weekend there. They have plenty of options for dining and the accommodations can be as simple as a hotel room or as nice as a three-bedroom condo. 

 

Barnsley Gardens is about an hour north of the airport. They only have one course but it's quite nice and never crowded.

Fly into Manchester, taxi into Liverpool, and stay there for the weekend. A properly world-class city for food, drink, sport and culture. 

 

You can easily hop onto a train to any of a handful of great links courses that by US standards aren't cripplingly expensive.

Depending on where you are in Missouri, an inexpensive option would be Paynes valley.  A weekend away is so little time for a decent trip (or just fly to the UK???).  Take the travel time and expense away and Paynes valley would be an awesome, travel lite, cheap destination.

For what it's worth, Payne's Valley is now $450/pp if you're not staying at Big Cedar (where rooms will set you back at least $500/night IF they have availability).  $350/pp if you're a Big Cedar guest.  The course is a ton of fun and I was happy to pay the $275 it cost a year or two ago, but it's quickly pricing me out of the market.

Flying to the UK from Missouri for just a long weekend would be silly and ridiculously expensive. 
 

Honestly, put a map on the wall, throw a few darts - there’s a decent course somewhere and plenty of places within driving distance of Missouri that when you take into account time getting to and at airport/rental car and on and on may be more convenient. 
 

2025 seems a long way out to have to plan a 3 day golf trip.  Sounds like summer based on your post but you didn’t say. Why not late winter? Take a cheap flight to the Palm Springs area - endless options and don’t get caught up in “the” course to play.

I live 20 minutes from Liverpool, 40 minutes from Manchester airport...  we have 3 Open golf courses (Royal Liverpool, Royal Birkdale, Lytham St Anne's) all within a 90 minute drive of each other.

 

Throw onto that - Hillside next to Birkdale (one of the best back 9's in the world), Wallasey (home of stableford) and you have a great selection.  Wouldn't be cheap but I cant think of anywhere else in the world where you could play iconic courses within such a short distance of each other.

If located in the Midwest, then I would highly recommend heading to Lake Geneva, WI to take in the numerous fantastic courses and a wonderful  resort style small town community.
