I always get the gap wedge that comes with the iron set. Current gap wedge lofts are what pitching wedge lofts used to be.

 

For me the gap wedge is just another iron the vast majority of times used for a full swing.

Depends, if you are going to use it for greenside play then go with a non set matching. If you plan to mainly hit 50% to full swing shots with it, go set matching.

It’s hard to argue with that.  I’ve had more than one CBX gap wedge and loved it.  I’ve fallen back into set gap wedges, probably from a looks perspective, but the CBX are as point and shoot as it gets.

I follow the theory of using a set gap since for me it is a full swing wedge.

Just depends on the gaps, especially between the gap wedge and whatever is the next wedge.  I had always ordered and used the set gap wedge, but in my last two iron sets, with a 48* gap wedge, it left me with not only too big of a yardage gap between that and the 54*, but I just couldn’t be consistently good at taking yards off the set  gap wedge. Finally gave up and got a 50*, and it’s been a vast improvement.

My club has a Callaway sponsored pro and they try to push Callaway products but the pro admitted to me that the 8+ handicappers almost always choose the Cleveland wedges when they go through fittings with all brands.

It's all about the gaps. My irons have a 48* PW, so I typically play a custom 52. I just got a PXG Sugar Daddy 50/10 since my new irons have a 46* PW, so I'm looking forward to trying that out. I tend to have 4* gaps.

Feel of the CBX isn't the best and the bounce is too high. I would go for the PING Glide wedge.

CBX4 is the same bounce as Glide 4.0.  The prior CBX was actually less bounce than the Glide 4.0. The sole is wider on the CBX but a large portion of that doesn’t interact with the turf.

I always get the set gap wedge and it works well for me. I've been playing some form of Ping I series irons for 20 years or so.

Ping Glide have different look than CBX even if same sole

Set GW all the way, my current is the z785 which is an outlier as the set gw is a blade as opposed to the cb from pw onwards, love it though.
