Pic-Heavy New Toulon Putter Side-by-Side Comparison

Took some time to do this combined comparison, mainly trying to figure out what the NYC model look like v.s. the others, and also show the difference between different models (especially the subtle difference between the blade models)

 

Side topic - if anyone is familiar with Sean please let him know that toulongolf.com is not very visible via Google / Bing search. That website won't show-up on the first page of search results with keywords "toulon golf" or "toulon putter"

 

First Run Collection family collage

 

 

Blade - Rear View:

• upper left / upper right / lower left / lower right: Madison / San Diego / Austin / NYC
• San Diego has a more "angled and extended" profile, while the other ones are more "rounded"
• NYC seems to have a longer neck, resulting in the lowest toe-hang (47 / 44/ 53 / 41)

 

 

Blade - Sole View:

• NYC is the "wide blade" and thus has a weight plate + rounded weights instead of only rounded weights
• However, the overall default headweight of NYC is only 5g heavier than the other three (365g v.s. 360g). I wonder if the NYC features a lower COG or if it is the other way around

 

 

Blade - Front View:

• Same face mill for all models
• According to the website, the "mid depth Double Fly Cut face mill" is a new finish they developed compared to that of prior Toulon products
• (My apologies for the photo quality - they def don't glare like that in reality)

 

 

Blade - Top View:

• (my apologies but it seems like the order is messed up in this one. This time it's San Diego / Madison / Austin / NYC)
• The San Diego is the most "square corner" looking one compared to the other three. However it seems to be less "square" with softer shoulders comparing to prior San Diego models
• The Austin is the only one that has a alignment dot instead of the traditional line
• The Austin is also the only one with 3/4 shaft offset, while the other three are both full shaft offset
• NYC is visibly much wider than the other three

 

 

Hope this is something interesting for my fellow GolfWRXers. Bummer that it's hard to see all of these side-by-side in real world at a retail location and try them all out.

 

I'll spend some time and write up about the Mallet ones in the First Run Collection later if people are interested. Cheers!

The NYC is really nice and clean. I really like their new lineup! Unfortunately Toulon sits in a weird space in the market. They make nice stuff but Odyssey basically turned them into Odyssey putters which imo spoiled the brand and appeal. Toulons were selling for under $200 on many secondary sites. 

 

I just don't see a huge demand for putters and this price point. At over $600 per, I would buy a Betti or a Scotty first to keep my resale value.  I would probably prefer a Piretti at $500 to any of these models.   Then there are a handful of Boutique putters I would visit.

 

Since they dropped the Odyssey brand, things look much better imo.

This is IMO the best milled release in some years.  The shapes, milling, color and minimal branding are all spot on.  I'm only hesitant on the pricing.  Can I forego the "first run" shaft band, grip and head cover to buy for $400-449ish?  I'd be fine with a generic Lamkin deep etched and OG WH head cover for that price.  The other thought is can you use trade in like Cally does on the purchase?  I doubt it.  Overall these look like a great lineup.

Why not throw in a flow of short slant neck in the Newport / Anser style putters? I appreciate the sight dot but just can’t get on board with all plumber necks.

Very good point. I also think these plumbers necks look a bit too skinny or something where it bends..

Is the Madison a bit more compact heel to toe than the other blades? I don’t like putters that look long from address. That one looks like it is shorter.

I was excited to see what they were going to do. But I dunno kinda the same as before with a few updates. 

 

They are definitely the best looking but if they don't drop from 600 they won't sell a ton. 

 

Hope for more additions in the future.

Is it true that they are not milled in the US or by Toulon at all? If so, that makes the $600 price tag even harder to swallow.

I heard at the moment they were using Odyssey's supply chain for this first run production. Assume they are setting up something on their own right now and maybe/hopefully US milled if not like you said hard for people to drop the cash on that.

I would guess that Ody told them not to price the same as the AI milled at $449, which is a lot of coin for an Odyssey.

I know all the small batch ones are milled in the US. Not quite sure about the First Run Collection since they are using a different material (303 instead of 904L)

Just rolled it on the carpet, feels awesome.  Looks as good as you'd expect.  I've always had a thing for brown finishes since I owned an oil can newport 2 when I was a kid.  I'm teeing it up for the first time this year next monday, this will be the gamer for sure.  As soon as I saw the picture I'll post below I knew my wallet was going to get lighter, it was just a matter of how much.

Trade in should not be a big issue.  You can get a very fair trade in price from ProClubs.com and they’ll send you a check.

I remember!  Not in the 24 first run collection line.  But could see a comeback at some point!
