Vokey SM10 vs Ping S159

Hi everyone,

 

Has anyone had the opportunity to test both these wedges and could provide any feedback ?

 

I currently game SM8, I want to replace my 54° 12D grind that I love from the fairway and bunker and 58° 08M grind for around the greens and occasional pitch shot inside 50 yards.
I recently tested the Ping S159 and completely fell in love with the 58° 06T grind. But I couldn’t find a suitable replacement for the 54° 12D, I tried the S159 54° 12S but I didn’t love it as I hit a few fat shots that digged early which is what the SM8 D grind prevent (for me at least).

I could blindly order an SM10 54° 12D and the Ping S159 58° 06T, but my OCD does not let me have wedges from different brands in the bag (it’s stupid I know….)

So two additional questions:

- What Vokey grind is similar to the Ping T Grind ?

- What Ping grind would be best for soft fairway or from the rough ?

Go to Ping’s website and they have a wedge fit app that recommends grinds.

I’ve asked this question in the opposite direction, from what I understand Vokey V grind is most similar to the Ping T grind.

Go with the W grind for your 54* on the Ping wedge.  Played this year's ago on my Glide 2 54* and loved it.  Currently playing the S grind now bc my angle of attack is not as steep.  The new H grind might work as well.  I tested both the Ping and Vokey wedges.  Ping was just more consistent for me.

The 54d is my go-to wedge as well.  I played the 60m for awhile too but eventually switched to the 60t (4* bounce), which is amazing off tight lies.

How is the W grind around the greens ? My only issue with the vokey D grind is the height of the leading edge, I’m not confortable chipping with it. It brings me confidence from the fairway and fluffy roughy lies but none around the green. I guess I’m looking for a unicorn that does it all 🤣 could be the H grind but not sure about the low bounce

How is the T grind for longer shot (50-80 yards range) and bunker ?

Great on longer shots.  I wouldn’t it use out of a fluffy bunker, but if you have a lot of thin, compact bunkers like we do around here, it works well there too.

I thought it was fine.  Mainly used it around the green for a bump n run.  Otherwise I used my 58°

Does the chrome finish on the 159 cause glare ? Kinda sucks you have to pick between chrome or little reduction in spin

It’s hydropearl more of a satin finish. Definitely not chrome and not much glare

Ping’s finish is satin and definitely a more dull/matte’esque finish than the chrome Vokey’s. I’d say it’s not quite as dull as the nickel sm10s but someone should correct that if I’m wrong on that as I haven’t had the chance to see the sm10 in person but own the s159s.

The wedge fit app is elite. But my fitter convinced me to change my most lofted (60) from T to B.
