Iron Suggestions

Hello everyone. I am in the market for a new set of irons. I am currently gaming PXG Gen 6 0311P and am looking for something with the following characteristics:

 

-Compact Shape

-Relatively forgiving on toe side misses

-Thinner Sole

 

I have experience with the i230s but find the high bounce to be problematic. My AoA is neutral with irons, and although I am working to get my numbers down to -2ish it is still a work in progress.

 

I am intrigued by the BluePrint S in Power Spec as well as the Mizuno Pro 243. I gamed a set of T150s for a month and thought they felt a bit harsh.

 

Any suggestions are appreciated.

2) MP243 or 245

3) Cobra Tour

4) PXG 0317T

5) P770

Blueprints are still going to have a lot of bounce and be less forgiving so doubt those would be better for you. 245s probably the most forgiving with little bounce so probably those.

245s are probably your best bet but don’t sleep on the p770s.  They’re another great mix of compact shape and forgiveness.  Stock lofts are 2 degrees weaker than the 245s though so that may be a factor if you’re looking for a bit of distance help.

PXG 0317t  ( dropped mizuno pro 223's) for these and they are fantastic.  They fit everything you mentioned.

If you are enjoying your PXG, I’d recommend the CB or T. Really great irons!

You can go to new level for a fitting and try everything..  they are in illinois

225 are lower bounce than 245 if you are wanting less bounce.

Seems like staying away from ping might be good given your AOA comment.  Not a pro, but seems like a v-sole, which serves good purposes for diggers, hangs well with those that don't come in so steep as well.  

 

I like the new level options, but I'll throw in Srixon zx7 and the Sub70 659TC.

Not sure I really buy the bounce stuff. If your low point is behind the ball, the bounce of the iron is pretty meaningless. It’s not like the same strike with a zx7 is going to be good while an i230 will go 50 yards short.

Makes sense...ish.  Not sure if it's bounce, sole design, or some of the other 300000 things that go into a good ball strike, but I do notice (for me) srixon irons do really well at helping decrease the number of fat shots that would have been pretty bad with my previous set.  They're still bad, just not "as".  No idea which things are contributing.  Making assumptions I suppose.

I know the Askgolfnut guy on YouTube who I really like says bounce doesn’t matter for pros because they make proper strikes but I bet for almost all of us that don’t all the time, it matters more.

Blueprints are ridiculously forgiving on toe misses, you made the right choice to test.

I went from original Blueprints to Titleist T150's. I loved everything about the Blueprints, but there's no denying (could just be my skill level) I'm hitting the T150's better. I hit the Blueprints just fine, they were my dream set and I still have them, I just don't think they'll be able to hang with the results of the 150s, no matter how much I like looking down at them.

24 Apex Pro would also fit.  I went from Gen5 P to these for similar reasons.

You can hit the 245's out on the chrome and they still go. Great irons.

Cobra tours fit all of your requirements but idk if I would say they have a thin sole. Certainly not chunky though. Much better feeling than the t series and silly forgiving.

Wilson CBs. Super forgiving, thin sole, feel great.

 

Even their blades are forgiving. I hit one off the chrome on the toe and only lost 10% of the distance.

I was going to put down any of the Callaway Apex series but maybe start with the standard Apex 19 or 21 for forgiveness.  Lots of them on Callaway CPO.
