Players(ish) irons - need your help!

Currently in P7mc ‘23 and while they are fantastic irons, a swing change has me at least curious about more forgiveness.

I tried zx7 mk2 with weaker lofts and still launch them way too low with no spin.

im looking at cobra cb and king tour.  I much prefer the CB looks but would love to hear comparisons from ppl that have hit all 3 - CB, king tour and P7mc.

I have not hit the p7mc but here's my 2 cents .

My 2 biggest reasons for getting fit were low launch and low spin numbers. I hit 9 different irons and my top 2 performers were the King Tour and the Ping i230. The numbers were very close but I went with the King Tours because of feel and looks. Both are forgiving for the class they fit in to.

I didn't mind the Cobra CBs but I miss on the toe side quite a bit and the King Tour performed noticably better.

I’ve been a Srixon guy for a long time now. I’m currently in the ZX5 Mk II because they give me a nice high ball flight across the set, something I was struggling to do with the ZX7 and Z Forged.

From address there really isn’t that much difference between the 7 and 5 series so I’m not sure why you wouldn’t give them a go?

Very strange that the ZX7's are launching low. They aren't known for that at all. Did you switch to a different shaft or something? If not, I'd get the swing weight and loft checked.

Cobra CB is not going to offer much more forgiveness than the MC. Cobra King Tour would offer some increased forgiveness but it isn't necessarily higher launching than the Srixon.

Ping I230 could be worth a hit. They are definitely more forgiving than the MC and tend to launch the ball up in the air pretty well.

Cobra King Tour is a good one to try as well as PXG 0317t and last year Mizuno pro 223

I had the 223's ver nice in the scoring irons 8-pw, little help in the 5,6 and 7 so that's nice.

Tested the King Tour nice looking head and easy to launch

PXG 0317t perfect for me ( my current gamers) consistant and good spin, heads look like the ST blades.

Ping i230 as mentioned above that was a real good idea. good spin, good launch could be a good fit

I haven’t tried the p7mc but have King CB’s and Tours (4 & 5 iron), really like them, especially the cb’s. The sole works really nicely for me, I get great turf interaction with them and they are pretty forgiving for a players cavity.

zx7 are known for being lower launch and spin killers.

p7mc is going to be a traditional players cavity back with relatively low forgiveness (retention of ball speed when you don’t hit the center).  The cobra cb will very similar to that.

the king tour is going to be the highest launch. And highest spinning of the group you mention.  Wide sole, lots of weight repositioning low in the club.  More forgiving than the others you mentioned be a significant amount.  Ping i230 would be a similar iron.

I moved on from the ZX7s because they didn’t spin enough for me, so I hear you on that. I’d just echo others who recommended i230s (what I’m currently playing) and King Tours (which I’d have bought if I didn’t already have and love my i230s). Both will launch and spin more for sure.

im a little sick in the head, looks matter to me.  i can't get on with the i 230s might be able to stomach an i blade or 210 potentially.  will consider this

No MCs launch much higher for me (16-18 degree for 6 iron) and also spin more which i love.  Carry further than the ZX7s really although total distance might go to srixon with roll.  Just cant see myself holding greens that low

CBs feel like they handle mishits well enough?  this is what has me contemplating a switch from the MCs

When you saw Cobra CB is not going to offer much more forgiveness than MC, are you saying that from opinion based on design of club and marketed player segment.  Or have you actually gamed both?

I have not gamed both but I have hit both. To me, the Cobra CB was a pretty straightforward players cavity meant for control and feel. The P7MC is along the same lines. I thought both irons felt great and did a fantastic job of doing exactly what the companies intended. Neither are unforgiving but I would not label either as a super forgiving iron -- pretty middle of the road. If the Cobra CB is more forgiving than the P7MC I doubt that it is more forgiving by a margin that is going to be noticeable. That said, everyone has different swing tendencies and perhaps the Cobra CB simply works best for you. The Cobra Tour did seem more forgiving and certainly offered increased ball speed. It seemed the Cobra tour guys looking for forgiveness went down the Tour route, I remember Fowler had a great run with the irons. I suggested giving the Ping I230 (ideally the I210 if you can find an old set to demo) a hit because they are much more down the road of forgiveness focused. You will get a slightly wider sole, lower CG, and more mass. Of course, there's a bit of a tradeoff feel and turf interaction wise but they are popular on tour for offering foreignness and excellent control.
