GolfWorks has really gone down hill?

Golfworks is good s***. Only thing they lack in my opinion is a good free shipping policy.

i have been  strictly part time  but now source most of my stuff in Asia from  Golf Shafts Asia or alternatively some  online  retailers

It seems to me that many  guys on here  like myself don't reach  Golf works limits  for trade and have to pay full retail prices!  Seems like Golfwrx guys  could get together and  get trade or at least  lower pricing?

I cannot grumble about what i pay even my volumes are way  down or non existent   kind of grandfathered  into  decent pricing

Yeah see I've always just bought and built for myself, so volume pricing isn't a thing for me. I've always thought of GolfWorks being great for the skilled hobbyist. Same goes for Hireko Golf, which was getting my business since I could will-call my orders from their location I happened to live by. They've since closed that down and moved up to Northern California. Since then I've basically bought odds and ends from Amazon or whoever has a good price. Not sure who I'd go with now if I really needed a higher but still low volume of supplies. Probably GolfWorks just because their selection of more major manufacturers but in all honesty, whoever has the lowest price for item is getting my business.

I also just placed a generic order a couple of days ago and I should have the order by Sat

I'm just indicating that I had a relatively simple order and was lucky enough to have it shipped right away.  I can easily understand a custom order taking longer and I am sure that there are mistakes made by Golfworks, as there are in any business.  It's good for people to hear issues to make determination if they want to conduct business with a company.

So none of this is a Golfworks issue?

I think some of it is.

They should have noted in the shaft's description that they were prepped at the factory. I don't think that is an unreasonable expectation. It's like not putting the weight of the shaft or tip diameter in the description.

When I first called about the length of prep, they should have talked to a technician to confirm that the shafts were factory prepped at 1.5". Apparently a technician knew that these shafts were factory prepped because I was told they were supposed to call me on this days before I called this week.

Had either happened, I would have either gone with another shaft out the gate or initiated the exchange for another shaft instead of making efforts to stick with the original order.

Mistakes happen and I think what made this all the more frustrating was the lack of effort to make it right. A technician was supposed to call me about the issue after the shafts were returned but didn't. The rep couldn't initiate an exchange when I called this week because their receiving had not noted receipt of the shafts in their system and wasn't available to call. No offers to expedite the replacement shafts or refund the tip prep fees (that was for shafts already prepped).

It was so out of character for GolfWorks I question whether or not they've gone down hill. It made me realize that they are pretty much the only game in town and it was bothersome. Hopefully my experience is an anomaly but even if it is, it doesn't minimize the frustration.

Should get the UST Mamiya Darts on Monday and all will be right. I will walk away from this knowing to do what I can to know what I'm ordering, not rely on the merchant for this and not to take shortcuts. Times like these miss the old days when there was a GolfSmith just down the road from the house. I could go there, put my hands on stuff and talk face to face with club builders.

Again, thanks for letting me rant.

I ordered some things last night and they shipped today. They are the best for golf supplies imo. They have everything and CS is always good. Was able to cancel an order the next morning one time and also took care of everything when a wrong product was shipped. This instance is rare since the irons didn’t need ferrules and the tip prepping option is probably default in the system for all shafts. Patience is due for the whole shipping and return process but I get the frustration.

I completely disagree. I see no issue with Golfworks in this at all.

If I recall, I do remember Steelfiber shafts already having shaft tip prep.  They've been around a LONG time so they might have changed this, especially after True Temper purchased them.

the taper tip shafts are already prepped.  the .370 tip shafts are non prepped due to tip trimming the shafts to play to flex.

They don't note it on any shaft that comes pre-prepped. Aldila wood shafts have come from the factory unpainted the last 1.5" inches or so for as long as I've been building clubs—20ish years. Nowhere in their description does Golfworks say it. You just sort of have to know these oddities or know to call to ask.  Golfworks is dealing with a decent number of non-routine builders who wouldn't know these sorts of things. But I agree with others that it isn't really their target market, at least historically.

I did ask. I asked here and got varying responses and asked GolfWorks when I initiated the return.

GolfWorks said they weren't prepped and would send replacements out prepped only at 1".

It wasn't until a week later when I didn't see a replacement shipment heading my way that they acknowledged that the tips were factory prepped.

Hard to believe they wouldn’t refund the $3/shaft prep work they didn’t perform.

The fact that the model of the head was supplied is moot since the tips were apparently already prepped from the factory.  Unfortunately, not much can be done about that.

That's the thing that sticks out, the charge for work not performed and the fact that CS didn't know the tips were prepped from the factory either.  Well, until they did know a week later.  Lol.

Sorry OP but the whole thing is wacky.

Agreed. No matter how good GolfWorks normally is or how many positive experiences anyone has, they offer a paid service that under certain circumstances they can't perform and that's an issue. Definitely an edge case one though as the only demographic really impacted here are the "shallow hosel/no ferrule" crowd, which is to say just vintage PING users. 😅

A refund of the tip prep charge is a no brainer, and disclosure of the factory tipping on the shafts is ideal, but I can see why it hasn't been done. It likely doesn't impact enough people for them to do anything.
