New Level 480-DB Iron! In-Hand Pics!

Recommended Posts

If I didn't recently buy the 90-os then I would be on these.  If they feel as good as the previous models and are a little more compact than the OS then they might be perfect.

Yeah I got a bunch of life left in my OS so probably won't be looking for a while but these look great. If they feel the same as the 902's they'll have another winner

Thanks for the solid pics! I poured over the specs and compared to my 902PD. Some points: two degrees WEAKER than PD, less offset (more like PF-1 offset), less bounce than PD, slightly smaller than the OS lengthwise.

There are very few other irons out there with a similar list of specs. These don’t read like players distance. These read like players CB with extra real estate on the face.

I think the 7 iron looks really good. I was a little worried that it would be big and clunky but the size is more compact that I thought.

Are these hollow body?

Nice take. I agree. A forged CB all the way, but one that lets you miss laterally a little more. The TC is a friendly players CB and the DB is a little friendlier still.

I have found the 480TCs launch on a bit more penetrating flight than their lofts might indicate. And you can deloft the New Levels at impact as much as you want. So I think the loft progressions fit the design and the players they are going after.

Slightly larger than 480TC and slightly shorter blade than 902-OS sounds perfect. I have been waiting for these. Tonight I ordered a few DB long irons, though I haven’t had any problem launching the TC 6 iron and getting excellent carry (I have 6-P). What I like is the similarity in look. I do not think the DB will be a jarring change at 4 and 5 iron.

wondering what the blade length is like compared to the TCs…that’s the one thing I didn’t like about the OS. Surprised they went with just 1* less loft than the TC as well. Not many irons come in at 33* 7i…usually 34 or 32*

I would guess they know players will be looking at combos with the TC and MC, so they don’t want to get more than 2 degrees away, since custom

orders allow for bending 2 degrees either way. I ordered my MC 8-P bent 1 degree strong to match lofts on the TCs.

I’m often coming across 33 degree 7 irons — TM p770, Callaway X Forged CB are a couple of recent ones. I like them at 33-34. Going to 32 is my limit in strong lofts. Beyond that, it’s a 6 iron. My thing is, I know my distances and know what I like to hit and I don’t want to change it. End of the day it’s about deploying 14 clubs max to do it all so stronger lofted irons don’t provide any edge, just another way to divide up the job. Where I run into a problem is the long irons — if the 7 iron is 30 degrees that means the 5 and 4 irons will be very low lofts. A 4 iron around 20 or 21 is not going to carry for me. I’d rather hit a 7 wood and have a 4 iron at 24.

I'm dreaming up a combo set for the ages:
4 iron = NLU Driving Iron
5 & 6 irons = 480-DB
7 & 8 irons = 480-CB 480-TC

9 & PW = 480-TC 480-MC
50* = SPN SS
56* = SPN VS
60* = SPN VS

Would be special.

Do you mean TC for 7-8 and MC for 9-W? (There is no CB, but the DB and TC are both in that category.)

I like the wedge lineup.

And you’re right. That would be outstanding. Very playable too.
