Best Courses in Madison, WI Area

I am going to Madison for a conference this weekend and wanted to know what options are out there. I know Erin Hills is about 50 min away but they don't open until next week. I have seen reviews that University Ridge is really nice. I have one day to play (this Sunday) so I wanted the next best thing to Erin Hills within a 45-50 min drive.

Well it's going to be like 15 min from my hotel so that may be the move.

Probably hard to beat U Ridge in the area.  The Oaks right on the east side of town is also not bad if you need a back up option.

If you're willing to drive I'd play at Lawsonia on Sunday

If you're going to drive an hour and a half, make it a special experience to Sand Valley.  But if you want to stay close, you won't regret University Ridge.

Yeah, looks like University Ridge is probably your best bet in that distance radius.  There are a dozen or so single slots available on Sunday for $94 walking and $114 riding.

I haven't payed TPC Wisco yet, although I have toured it.  It just opened in August of 2023 and this early in the season I would wonder how well it has grown in.  U Ridge won't disappoint.

A friend was a longtime member at the old Cherokee Golf Club where the TPC now is. I would think if it opened in August so was well enough to play on then PLUS the grow in of August through mid October plus this spring it should be in great shape.  Unless y’all had winter damage of course.

Winter in Wisconsin?  Don't have a clue!  I've been in AZ since November😃!  I walked the course two weeks before it opened and and the fairways were very thin.  Going to be a tough course on a windy day.  LOTS of water!

Looks better than the old layout where you had narrow fairways….a couple yards of rough…and then head high marsh plants lining both sides of the fairways.

Looks nice but is it worth it to play over U Ridge at a slightly higher rate and over an hour away? I'd want it to be totally worth it like Erin Hills would be (if it were open).

THIS looks awesome! I'd want this to be a golf experience with my buddies though. It seems like it would be a waste to play by myself. Erin Hills I would've done by myself because it's just the one course and I would've gotten a caddie to have that experience. Sand Valley is a destination like Streamsong, Amelia Island or Reynolds Plantation. You can enjoy by yourself but with the guys...it would be totally unforgettable!

Totally different course than uridge. If it were me I’d take a look at uridge, the legends at brandybrook as well as the glen which is a 9 hole course redesigned by the kaisers.

brandybrook is in Waukesha, private, and in no way worth traveling to play.

U ridge is great. Front and back play completely different. Bergie is fun too. Very open. TPC is private
