The new holes are tough. I've only played it once since the redo. But the bunkers definitely come into play on the 14th. The only thing is I didn't think they fit in as well with the rest of the course. I'll give it another go next summer and see if my opinion changes.

Yeah, I thought it interesting they made two new holes entirely. It just saw it was a Joel Goldstrand project initially. Funny, my impression of Goldstrand courses is that they are usually pretty good with one or two holes that totally suck that need a re-do.
Is it pretty tight off the tee? I'm trying to remember if it was GN or BlackBear that someone told me it was so tight on many holes? I think that was BlackBear though...

I've played Hinckley a couple times, years ago, but I don't remember much about it, other than a short par 4 that had the green tucked into a little opening in the trees that wound left from the "fairway."

For all I know, I'm remembering a different course. LOL

Yeah, this article was saying they wanted to position it as a more "upscale" experience/destination. Not good if the course isn't memorable. I see its $39 to walk, so must be fairly run of the mill.

GN is pretty forgiving except for the 2 new holes. Black Bear on the other hand is not. Hit it straight or pay the price. Don't need driver on most of the holes at black bear. In fact I don't think I hit driver on more than 4 or 5 holes. If you miss the fairway the rough slants towards the woods on a bunch of the holes. So you may need a lucky bounce to keep it in play.
Not sure that GN will ever be an upscale course. It's nice but not Wilderness@ Fortune Bay, or Giants Ridge nice.

You have the right course. It's not a real "Wow I have to play it again" course.

My buddy who is from MN now lives in Colorado. Said in some places there you can golf almost all year 'round with the awkward altitude changes.

I walked over to local and got a half dozen or so holes. Hitting was okay but putting was not possible. Ehhh, whatever. Wanted to be able to say I actual "played" as late as Dec. 14 (crazy, right?). It was just so warm today I could not pass up the opportunity.
