Apparently I need to look into this "morning" thing.
Just brutally slow at Manitou yesterday. Stuck behind a 5some with a 4some in front of them. Took 4.5+ hours to play a course that should be no more than 3.5-4 for anyone. No ranger. No bev cart. Last Tuesday, same tee time, took just under 3 hrs walking.
The lot wasn't that full when I pulled in. Pretty poor job managing daily play yesterday. But....no rangers. Kinda tough.
Course is in nice shape though. Probably nicest in my lifetime.

Part of the reason driving people away from the game.

I can tolerate 4hrs at the most. My buddy and I when we're on a cart and just jumping around hole to hole could play 18 in about 2:20-2:30 hours. My preference is around 3:20-3:40 range.

Last week's round in 3 hours: 71.
Yesterday at 4.5+? 79.

I was so mentally checked out by the back 9 I made 6 bogeys in a row. Saved it with 3 pars to end it at least. Just not a fun day. Such a gorgeous day. Nice conditions. Really not that busy out there, just really, really slow. But that's what happens when they let the course run itself with one pro in the pro shop.
Building a new $1.4 million maintenance shed though, thank goodness!

Look how nice it is outside and I just have no desire to play again today after that!

Sounds good to me link.

Divots I'd rather play early AM. First group off. I could have played in 1:30-1:45, but I was trying to take a little time, and took a couple work calls while I was out.

Ahhh....3 hrs. They were cutting down some of the fescue along the edges and I even scouted out almost a dozen nice balls. Front 9 started out pretty good at +2. Back nine I got into a groove and shot -1. So nice to just hit and walk. Sky divers were going nuts out there today. About every 5 minutes you'd hear another chute open. Got done so quick I even swept out the garage upon return. LOL!

Hey Minnesota WRX'rs...I'm coming to the Minneapolis area this weekend for a wedding and have an opportunity to sneak out Friday and early Saturday for a couple rounds. Scheduled to play the Chaska Town Course on Friday afternoon with my wife's cousin but looking for somewhere to play Saturday morning. I'm staying in Minnetonka and would like to get out pretty early Saturday. Two questions...

1. What is a can't miss course in the area?

2. Is anyone interested in joining me or if you need a 4th I can jump in. Play to a 3 handicap and am never opposed to a friendly competition.

Thanks for suggestions!

How far are you willing to drive? Rush Creek is a good one, albeit very spendy on a weekend morning. Good choice with the Clown Course. You may also want to look into The Wilds or The Meadows at Mystic, as both are a bit cheaper than Rush.

If you're going down towards Wilds or Mystic check out Legends Club as well.

On another note, anybody play Edinburgh since they finished the reno?
Based on the email I got from them the other day, it didn't sound finished, exactly? Like it was close and they were down to a couple temporary greens.
Not one of my favorites though. Such long rounds and overpriced.

Legends is a great course. Of those three, that would be my choice.

Said no temp greens anymore. They "look great but are a little shaggy"
Last time I played there in the fall two years ago, the greens had been punched a month earlier according to a ranger. They still had not healed the day I played it. Putted like waffles. Round was 5.5 hours long. I went in to ask their pro if that was acceptable, as they were charging full rack rate at about $65 to walk it that day.
"The greens were fine, and I pushed out 185 groups today" was his answer to me. He later sent an email apologizing to me after we exchanged some pleasantries before I left. I won't be back there ever if I can help it.

If they are saying they're "a little shaggy" and they have it at $50 with a cart, I think that's probably telling.

I played there a few weeks ago. Front 9 was in pretty good shape for the most part. A couple of the early greens were a little shaggy (1 & 3 IIRC) but once we got past that point, the rest of the front 9 was solid. The back 9 was another story. A lot of it was roped off and made for some difficult looks off the tee (and a few spots where I had no idea where I wanted to hit my ball). The greens on the back 9 were fine but the course itself was still in "recovery" mode. FWIW, the rate on the day that I played was ~$40 WITH a cart. Things were turning around rather quickly though so, with any luck, it's in much better shape now than when I was there.

Edinburgh is too spendy for me, and not that great of a course IMO. I'll take Bunker or Victory over it any day.
