I got out to the Badlands in Wisconsin today. I thought the layout was quite nice - really nice. I've played a fair share of courses (including around a half dozen private courses in the Twin Cities) and I thought the layout better than a number of them and any of the local munis I play regularly (Phalen, Goodrich, Como). It was short though at about 6.2K from tips.

That said, the fairways were in terrible shape and the greens painfully slow (on a couple putts I missed by a couple inches), but it was a pretty course.

Played Northfork yesterday. No Nike-wielding golfer sightings, however.
That's because I haven't been out. Hopefully this afternoon.

How was it?
Yesterday was good. Not sure after last night's rain, but that course drains well. Greens have been fun there this year. That was my 2nd round up there.
Love the staff. I don't play it THAT often and they all call me by name. Always surprises me.
Got it around in 79. Had 221 pin from the left rough downwind on #9 and it just knuckeld and died on me for a double into the pond. Doah! Fun day though. One of my "usual" courses.
You suck! I live on the dam course and I just got my first 18 in. 50* and drizzle this afternoon 6 doubles for a smooth 85, I guess I'm the one that sucks.
Really? The weather has sucked royally, but I think I have a dozen rounds in. Its felt like fall golf all over again though. You haven't missed a lot of great days out there at least.
If you ever see the blue cart when you are playing up there flag me down and say hi! It's been a rough spring so far, but I've gotten out 8 or 9 time so far. Have rounds scheduled for Wed, Thurs and Friday this week,

Oh man, I knew we had played before! You had an R11s driver with about an 80 gram shaft the last time we played if I'm thinking of the right person.
I think your wife and maybe your daughter joined us?

Nope, that one wasn't me. And rather than saying my wife doesn't play golf and I don't have a daughter, I'll stick to true WRX fashion and say my R11s has a 65 04 Purple Kiyoshi in it :)

Too funny. The custom carts up there are pretty cool. I like the one with the lift kit. Must be the owner or something?
Guess it was another guy with a blue cart. I think it had lightning bolts and was blue the guy I played with if that cart rings a bell. He lived on the course and his wife drove bev cart sometimes.

Yeah, pretty much! 6:12 tee time Friday - Monday. Eating frosted flakes for supper. Got sun burned, aching body, a blister on right hand ring finger. How is that possible?

Hcp is climbing and I don't see it coming down anytime soon.

I must need new clubs!

Yes. I've played Hillcrest. I also caddied there back in the day (early 90s or so). It's a nice course and short.

Favorite hole is probably the short par 5 #17.

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, I'd suggest checking out Willingers near Northfield. It's a naughty little course, 6800 from the tips with a 150 slope. I believe it's an Audubon course.

I also like the Links at Northfork in Ramsey (northwest of Mpls on US Hwy 10).

Not my personal fave, but some folks like Edinburgh USA in Brooklyn Park. They're working on the course right now, supposed to be done in August, I believe; until they finish, there will be a couple temp greens (#1 and #3).

You've got some great suggestions so far, what part of the cities are you moving to? That could help narrow down some options so you don't have to drive an hour to play.

Thinking about playing Majestic Oaks in Ham Lake on Saturday. Never been though. It looks like a good test at almost 7100 yards and 75+ rating but what else can a guy expect as far as course conditions, etc? I see some scattered mentions on these forums, but have actually never heard anything about it and with no pictures on the website I'm a little bit weary. Any feedback?

Been a couple years since I played it. Conditions are usually on par with a muni that is in good shape. They tend to host a lot of tournaments.
Lotta doglegs left as I recall. Was just talking about that course with someone the other day. With all the rain we've had this year, if a course can't grow grass, they're in trouble!

It's not as daunting as the yardage and slope would suggest overall. It leaves you some missable spots at least. It's long from the back tees, but with the doglegs, if your game is on, you can cut that down a bit.
