I have played the Titleist Pro V1x for over 2 years. I would rate it a 9.5 out of 10 in every category other than durability, where it would rate about a 5 :partytime2: . I was encouraged by a buddy of mine, to try the new 2008 Nike Platinum. I was hesitant, because I have been part of the "Nike Haters" for a while. I have always felt they didn't belong, and that they should stick to SHOES. Well, now my thoughts have changed. I think they should stick to shoes AND balls.

The 2008 Platinum is an incredible ball. I have been very impressed with the playability, the distance and the spin is awesome. It ranks right up there with the Titleist Pro V1x in all those categories. It then takes over the race, the platinum is SUPER durable. I put the CLAMP on it several times with my Vokey spin milled 60°. I hit several full shots from 85 yards without leaving a blemish on this ball. This balls spins like crazy and comes up smiling. I have never had a ball that spins like this and "keeps on tickin'". I will continue my testing, but this new platinum is definitely in the running to me my next ball.

I dont think you will find a better ball than the 2008 TaylorMade TP red. It is hands down the best all around ball I have ever tried. LOnger and less spin off the tee than a pro-v1x, long off the irons and as much spin around the greens as a normal Pro-V1. Best ball I have ever played.

I'm not sure if it spins just as much as the Pro-V1 around the green, but the TP Red is nonetheless my choice as well. It's long, it feels good off the irons and putter... Give it a try. I really like this ball.

Are you looking for alternatives just to try a different ball or are you wanting to save a few bucks?

If you're looking for a less expensive alternative to a Pro V1, I think it's very tough to beat an NXT Tour. Big fan of that ball.

The Bridgestone 330S is a pretty nice ball too - good feel, great distance and similar durability to a ProV1. I wasn't blown away by them the first time I used them, but after gaming them again I'm beginning to warm up to them. I never got the wedge shots that ripped back (ok, I'm a sucker for useless pyrotecnics), and they don't seem to have the same feel as a ProV1, but they do feel nice off of all clubs and are consistent. I'm going to have to given them another shot. As somebody said earlier, if you want to save money try the e5+ - it performs similiarly but doesn't quite feel as nice.

The 08 TM TP balls are great. I play the Black most of the time and the Red if the course is wet.

I play pro v1xs but B330s are great. Would agree with everything Baconator has said.

At the beginning of each season, I buy a sleeve of the new 3-4 piece balls and test them out during a round. You don't have to play all 18, just 2-3 holes and see how you like them. If you don't like them, toss them into your shag bag and use them to hit them into a net in your backyard.

Another method would be to go to a club fitting place and they should be able to provide you with a ball fitting.

Bridgestone B330s is my new ball, I'm halfway through my second box this season. A little less spin than the ProV1 but still a very nice tour quality ball. Also, if you buy (2) dozen right now you can send the upc's and receipt in for a free WGC wind shirt by Antigua. I received mine a few days ago and it's very nice, basicall spend $80 on balls and get a $70 wind shirt for free - can't go wrong.

Which of the 2008 contenders to take out the Pro V1 is the softest off the putter? The great soft feel and high spin around the greens is the reason I stick with the Pro V1, but the trade off is poor durability. I won't putt a rock.

+1 for the Taylormade LDP black and red. I finally bit the bullet and played the black during our men's invitational. hard firm conditions and 10mph winds (screaming for V1x that i usually play). results. shot a 75 first day with a double (double crossed a drive, DEFINITELY not the balls fault LOL).

greenside the Black spins more than the v1 x, but also more reliable (u know how sometimes the x doesn't or does check of a pure pitch shot). in the wind and on mishits is where this ball really shines, especially off the driver. I red in another thread where someone felt this was the case. i can validate that. i had mishit drives that were still at my average distance. also the ball doesn't move as much as the V1x in the wind. this is huge at my course where greens avg. 4k sq. feet. (small and crowned).

finally, durability. the first box i had in february SUCKED, chunked cover on every ball and quit playing it. something changed, i played 1 ball for all 18 holes friday, and that included 2 bunker shots, a cart path, and a full pinched gap wedge that would have shredded a V1x. the Black had 1 scuff on it.

while i haven't tested the NOP 08 (and i will), black is in the bag for now, red in windy/wet conditions.

hope this helps all of you...

I know that most of my WRX buddies play this fabulous product but what alternatives would you use.

SRIXON?

NIKE?

CALLAWAY?

What is the best value for money gamer ball out there, other than the Titleist?

63brummie :partytime2:

fairways and greens

The whole Taylor Made line has the best balls out, from the premium TP line to the 2-piece Burner ball which is great in it's own right. imo

Here's how I rank the top-tier balls for my game based on on-course performance (I choose the lower spinning/firmer ball majority of the time but will occasionally swap in the higher spinning depending on greens, wind, hard/soft conditions, etc):

1. ProV1/V1x

2. TP Black/Red LDP

3. One Platinum/Black '08

4. B330S/330

5. Tour i/ix

6. Z-URS/URC (this one's weird because although the URC feels firmer, it spins more)
