Need to lower driver spin

907 D2 w/ v2 or rapture w/v2

I have been trying to get my sping under 3300 rpms and I currently have a rapture with the aldila proto by you stiff shaft and have been debating between putting a v2 in it or getting a d2 with the v2 shaft. Any suggestions. Maybe a dif shaft than the V2?? Or a different driver?? Im open to many suggestions.

you seem to like PING woods. I would try the G10 if you haven't already with the PROLAUNCH RED shaft, stiff.

I reduced my sidespin and improved my launch angle.

 

If you didn't like the G10 driver, try the prolaunch shaft in your Rapture.

the rapture is lower spin. If you really want to lower spin for the same money as a V2 ...go with a GD Pershing.

The Titleist D2 is generally considered to be a high spin driver, so I would go for the Ping to get your spin down. The V2 is a really good shaft for a really good price.

I just love the way the D2 looks compared to my Rapture. BUt we shall see. I may pick up a D2 with a V2 to see how I like it.

ping g10 with aldila dvs. i just went to a driver fitting with the trackman, and this thing is for real. i swithed from a callaway ft-3 with stock shaft 10* stiff. my new club is coming in friday and it is a ping g10 7.5* with aldila dvs 60 grams stiff shaft.

 

spin before: 4400 rpm

 

spin after: 2980 rpm

For me, V2 65 and 75 have been spinny in every driver I've tried them. I changed my current driver from V2 to ProLaunch Red and it is much better. YMMV.

Eeeeewwww .... D2 is MUCH!!!!!! higher spin loft vs loft - dont mean to stereotype - I know some LOVE D2 - but in general D2 spin like a top.

 

Couple quick notes ... Ping woods typically are a 1-1.5 degrees higher than stated - I wouldnt be suprised if your current 9* is 10-10.5. If that is the case - then the "extra" spin you are getting is in part due to that. Titleist for the most part - are "closer" to true loft - not EXACT - but closer than Ping. That is not to say Ping is trying to be deceptive - They have a theory of efeective loft for the consumer - and I agree with them. Some people would have a mental block hitting a true 12* driver - where as menatlly 10.5 looks better - but its the accepted standard - when they really need the 12* ... SO ... (sorry for the speech)

 

I have always believed - and still do - that NOONE has the QC that PING does - PERIOD. They make good clubs period. So rather than moving away from Rapture altogether - which is an INCREDIBLE driver !!!!!!!!....

 

Put this in the ole noodle ... Consider having Wrx digitally loft a true 9* head - which they do - CUDOS!!!!!!!!! to PING for the Wrx department - FINEST custom build segment anywhere in golf. And instead of V2 - but in that same price point - think about Grafalloy Pro Launch Red. I have a personal contact at Wrx - and they get VERY good results with that shaft - That will lower your launch a TINY bit but really take the spin off.

 

I bet my bottom dollar - if you let PING do the work for you and get the right Rapture built - you will never look back.

 

IF!!!!!! you do go to a Titleist - PLEASE !!!!!!! consider 905R - BEST driver they have built other than THE undisputed Heavyweight Champion of all drivers - the 975D

PLEASE dont get a D2.. You will most definitely increase spin unless you put a whiteboard or some such upgrade shaft in it!! If you are set on buying a titleist driver just wait about a month and get the new 909D3, it will be deeper faced and will surely spin less than the D2..

 

But as for good budget shafts to keep the spin down, I would 2nd the pershing and pro red nominations already in this thread.. The pro red would lower the launch angle, but the pershing is more of a mid launch shaft.. so to keep the same launch angle I would look at a pershing.. however, GD shafts tend to play weak, so I would either get a flex stiffer than you usually play or tip it an inch before installation..

I think ill put the pro launch red in the Rapture I have it in my G10 3 wood and love it so maybe that will be the cure. Ive been looking for new drivers but nothing catches my eye for some reason. Guess ill have to keep looking but for now the Pro Launch Red will do.

I reshafted my rapture with the v2 from proto by you. I am really happy, fifteen to twenty yard difference in distance, much more penetrating trajectory.

I read with great interest these threads that talk about the D2. I've had a D2 with BB 73 in X flex and it is by far the longest driver I've ever hit. I have 4 drivers in my rotation (J33, 580XD TP Tour, BTY are my others) and my playing partner comments on why I hit any driver other than the D2. It goes striaght and far with great trajectory. BTW, I'm a hitter of the ball with a 105-108 SS.

D2 with a V2 shaft in it does have alot of spin. Having both the 905R and 907D2 with 76gram V2, the R was a good 500rpms less. I have recently reshafted the R with a proforce V2 Tour 86g stiff shaft tiped and spined/aligned and hit a med/high flat trajectory with very low spin. 2400rpm range with a 105mph CH speed. The Tour models "V2" are hands down a better shaft with ultra low torque (1.8) The V2 has been known to be boardy if the shafts spine is not aligned correctly. First hand witness of this in my own setup. The Titleist V2 shaft also feels cheaper than buying a stock 46" V2 shaft and having it installed. I think the quality control on the "made for" Titleist version has a wide tolerence of specs.

get a Cobra X Speed Deep Face... lowest spinning driver I've ever hit. Just got rid of my D2 and my 905R for this... too much spin with these and ever other club on the rack. Spin rate on launch monitor with this Cobra is so much lower than anything I had and anything on the shelf at the store, in a whole different class spin wise... loving it, hitting more fairways than ever!!!
