Anyone change/remove paintfill from their VR Blades?

Just wondering if anyone has removed any of the paintfill from their Nike VR Blades. The red looks better than I thought it would but I'm still thinking about removing at least the red paint, and maybe all of it. My KZG ZO Blades look awesome with no paintfill. Hmm...

If anyone had changed the paintfill on their VR blades, post pics!

Ok, I experimented with a wedge. I like it. Think I'm gonna have to do the rest of the set. The before is my 52; the after is my 58.

Certainly no harm done with that......looks very clean. Now just need to run the blast area over the scotchbrite belt to get a nice satin look to the whole head. I think that would look real good!

Yeah full satin would look nice, as would full chrome. Not sure about going that far with them yet. Getting a nice even satin finish seems like it might be tough.

what did you use to remove the paintfill? did it come off easily?

acetone takes paintfill out w/ no problems. just use a little acetone and q-tip or a nylon brush for stubborn paint that doesn't want to come out.

funny.. i want to do that same thing but with my irons and have them XXX black from BOS and do silver/white/red paintfill.

Okay, I went ahead and did the irons too. On the wedges I just used acetone and a toothbrush. They were pretty easy. The irons however were MUCH harder. I used some gel paint remover and had to let it sit for about a half hour before it was really manageable. Even then it took a lot of elbow grease with an xacto knife. NOT easy. Anyway it's a much cleaner look IMO.

Looks really nice, I'm debating removing the paintfill from my MP 32's.....as for anyone who wants a REALLY good paint remover just look for anything that has methlyene chloride in it. Its really strong and will strip off even the toughest paint in a few minutes. It's gel based....just check the paint remover's ingredients....if its on their you've got the good stuff (you might have to look at the safety notes to see if it's in there). Don't use it on aluminum though...it'll eat it up fast. Steel and anything that is plated, however, won't be affected.

I think those would look really good with all of the paint removed and then go back over just the swoosh in the translucent red or smoke color.

I am in the process of doing the same thing... nice work! I am finding it difficult on the irons as well, but the wedges were much easier to remove. I appreciate the tips, looks like I better find my knife, nothing else has been working in the stubborn areas.

The specific product I used was Motsenbocker's Lift Off paint and varnish remover. It worked pretty well once I figured out to let it sit for AT LEAST 20 minutes before actually getting the paint out. For some reason the paint in the irons is much tougher than that in the wedges. I applied the Lift Off, let it sit for 20+ minutes per iron then carefully (but not gently) scraped the paint out with an Xacto. For each iron, after one pass, I'd still have some paint in some of the tough areas and repeated the process.

Nahl. The pics are just jinky cuz I suck at photography. The irons all look pretty much brand new. No scratches...yet. :)

 

Hmm...actually the 8i does have a few VERY light scratches on it...yeah...that was probably from when the idiot removing the paint (me) was frustrated with the inability of the acetone to remove the paint on the irons and tried a few light passes with a wire brush...can barely tell in person thank God. Have to hold it just right in the light.

 

EDIT: I guess you're talking about the last pic. That was a fingerprint mostly, though there a some tiny scratches on the 8i there. I wiped it with a towel and it looks fine.

 

Regardless, I know they'll get dinged up and scratched plenty over the next 10 years or so.... ;)
