Grey Line where red used to be

White "swoosh" or red "swoosh"

Those look MUCH NICER....way to go! I was really turned off by Nike's paint scheme for the whole line.

Just a quick question for you boys though who goof around with paintfill...

Is there a specific tool you use to fill-in paint or do you just use a toothpic or something???

If you are going to apply some paint fill, you can just apply with a brush, not worrying about being sloppy. Just take a brush and slop the paint over the area you want filled. After the paint dries completely, take a rag and some acetone and clean up the paint that got "outside the lines." You could use a toothpick but that can take a lot longer and sometimes doesn't come out quite as smooth. Also there are some needle tip bottles that people have used but I'm not sure where to get them. Do a search for "paint fill" or "paint fill" on this board. Might turn something up.

Okay better pics:

I like these. I still like 'em better naked though. ;)

I'd considered leaving the swoosh black but decided against it. I'm glad I did them all clean. The swoosh still stands out well enough. I had them in a friend's shop the other day and a guy kinda walked past my bag, glanced over at it, and his eyes got all big as he said, "wow, you have the new nikes!?" Apparently the swoosh stood out well enough from 10 feet away that he noticed it quickly. He walked over to them and I mentioned that I'd removed the paint from them. He liked the result.

Clean is classy IMO.

Great work Pure! Those look sick. Much better than stock. This thursday, my sons christmas present set arrives (cally proto x muscles) I will be working on them secretly. I will be adding a single or double red ring ferrule to them as well as paintfill. It will be some some sort of translucent red / blue fill, but I am going to probable end up mixing some smoke with the colors as well to get the right shade I am looking for. Once again, Excellent work!

Thanks Deerslayer! Your son is not going to be able to contain himself when he gets those babies! I hope to someday be able to enjoy golf with my son (if i have one) the way you do yours.

Thanks the compliments, i actually thought about sending them your way but couldnt live w/o them for too long.

I also have red DD2 grips so that's why i kept with the red.. if you have any suggestions, let me know.

I really have become a big fan of the subtle look of smoke paintfill (translucent black) You can do it different shades to get a lot of different looks from almost black to tinted chrome.

If you like the naked look, I would try this: try a very light smoke paintfill in the swoosh and V instead of white may look really sweet. I really like the white/red Vr logo better than stock black red though. You can apply the smoke in different amounts to get a different look.

Even if you dont have the applicator bottles, you can control the smoke fill by when and how you wipe with your acetone wipe. If you want a dark smoke fill, fill heavy, let dry and then do a light acetone wipe. If you want a lighter shade, do your acetone wipe when the paint is wet, and basically wipe out some of the fill. Let it sit and do your final cleanup. You will be surprised how much better a smoke or translucent black fill looks compared to an OEM solid black.

Another cool thing to do is to do a clear paintfill. Tamiya makes clear that I fill with also. A clear fill can be pretty slick in some cases as well. Don't be afraid to experiment. Acetone is easy and cheap. Time and patience, time and patience.

After doing some mock-ups, It looks like on the back of the proto's for my son, I will be doing the "callaway golf" in a smoke transition, from a dark bottom fading to light smoke on the top. I will do the sole numbers translucent red, install a trans red band ferrule (just like the ones on yours), & either trans red or light smoke in the "prototype". His grips are blue, and the project X satin shafts will have the blue labels, so they ought to come out looking good. Only one way to see how it actually looks best though. :good:

Once again, congrats, those are beautiful sticks!

well if the x-proto's fall through.. the VR's are a hit! one of the softest blades i've hit to date.. the only thing i would change, is that i wish they were satin finished instead of chrome. plus they have a better "canvas" for you to work with in terms of paintfill!
