Thanks for the good words! I really like these irons. They feel great and produce a very nice ball flight. I've had lots of nice comments from people locally about how they look without the paintfill.

It would've been nice if they were all satin or all chrome. The two-tone thing is kinda strange at first; I'm used to it now and quite like it. Still, my original plan was to send them off to The Iron Factory for full chrome (or possibly full satin) finish. I don't think I'll bother with that now though. I like them like they are. It's strange but the swoosh seems to have a satin finish even though the rest of that area is chrome. Not sure why that is but it kind of sets the swoosh apart a little even without paint.

The wedges definitely feel better to me than the Vokeys did (I had oil can Spin Milled 52 bent to 53 and a 58). The Nike wedges feel (subjective) almost exactly like my JLM Scratch wedge does (and like my custom Scratch wedges did before I sold them...long story). I don't notice any difference in spin between the SMs and the VRs...both can produce plenty, even though the VRs are built to the new USGA standards. I haven't had to hit the VRs out of heavy-ish rough yet though.

All in all I definitely like the VRs better than I did the Vokeys, and I like them just as much (in terms of feel) as my Scratch wedges...just my opinion of course.

Side note: lately I've been using my Scratch JLM 58 a bit more because, as Ari predicted, its grind works very well for my short game...maybe a hair better than the VR 58. I'm still experimenting between the two though.

  • 4 weeks later...

Oh boy, my nikes are coming in friday and I am totally torn on wether or not I should make them naked, and if so what new paint scheme to put on them, if any. Kinda funny, the first thing that entered my head when I saw the above pictures of the naked blades is in the movie "Ironman". When he first tries on his suit and it isn't painted and is plain shiny amazingness, versus when he paints it all flashy red n stuff. I love when its in red, but something about it being plain just seems amazing. I duhno, but Im thinking Im going to naked-ize them then decide from there. I was thinking just putting a white swoosh and leaving everything else blank, any color combo ideas guys?

Hey how did you get the paint in the V and the swoosh, i have done numerous putters and i have a hard time, getting the paint to dry without bubbles and not overflowing

by the way those look unreal, im definitely going to be doing the same thing when mine come, although i am mixing it up with 1/2 cavity long irons 3-5 and blades down to wedge

I used a needle.. but i dipped the part of the needle where you'd loop the thred though, i find that it holds more paint.. i just fill it using the needle and I apply it liberally and I've never had any trouble with bubbles.. i let it overflow a little and wait for it to dry completely.. the above picture i used testors and let it sit overnight.. then removed the excess paint.

If you're going to do the same as above, do the red first and let it completely dry and wipe it before doing the white. If you do the white first, when you wipe the red, it will go onto the white and turn pink.

My new scheme is smoke and red.. smoke where the white is and transluscent red instead of the red red..

just got mine today, and I'm in love. Im really torn cause the stock paintfill actually looks pretty damn nice in person, Im trying to imagine what other fills look like. Not to mention they are the nicest irons Ive ever hit, period. Can put it wherever I please, draw fade or straight. Where did you get acetone btw? pure could you post a picture with the smoke color cause thats what im leaning torwards, just can't picture it.

For all those that strip paint from their clubs ... you MUST be careful not to allow any of those chemicals to come in contact with the hosel as it will melt!

Whoa! That looks sweet! Talk about a deadly combo set! Now you need to change your screen name :)

PS mine are now smoke and translucent red.. no more white/red.

I would have only removed the red cross bar, that looks stupid to me and detracts from the pure player blade. i don't have a problem with the colored V or the Nike Swoosh ... lots of blades have similar markings. but that red bar? :russian_roulette:
