Callaway HX Tour 56

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering what other people have hit this ball and what they think about it. I managed to get 1 ball from a Callaway rep and I decided that i better give it a try. Being one that has played the ProV1 and the X, I wanted to know what all the fuss was about. After playing I came to this conclusion, you know how the ProV1 is great in every aspect of the game? well so is the Callaway HX Tour 56 and then some, it just seemed to outdo the Titleist from tee to green and my personal fav it doesn't scuff up very much at all off the club face (i'll tear up a sleeve of ProV's in a round usually) Let me Know what you all think when you get to hit it.

TBD - G430 Max 15* - 818 H2 19*- Sub 70 Pro 23* - i525 6-U - SM9 54* / 58* / 62*  - F22

I had a couple of sleeves before they came out retail and didn't like them as much as the regular HX Tour. The 56 spun a bit too much and was easily scarred/burred. It's not as durable as the original HX Tour or Pro V1 series. Also, I felt like I lost 5 or so yards off the driver when compared to the original HX Tour.

I have been a confirmed HX Tour and Nike Black user for a year. Have always found the spin characteristics of the ProV1 and ProV1X to be variable. Being someone who puts huge spin on the ball I have also found that the Prov1x still spins excessively.

After reading the specs of the HX56 on the Callaway website, I was not even going to bother trying it as I felt it was a similar attempt by Callaway to emulate the ProV1 as they had a ProV1X competitor in the HX Tour.

However last weekend I decided to give one a try after being asked by some mates to give it a go. All I can say is "WOW". This si the first ball where I feel confident about the spin characteristics. I have always played the HX Tour because other balls spin too much. Now we have a ball that seems to be just right in the spin department while maintaining that incredible feel off the clubface.

The trajectory of the HX56 is also better than almost everything else I have played. Stability in the wind is only matched by the Hogan Tour Deep. Must be something to do with those freaky deep dimples. I finally lost the ball on the 18th hole after carrying it into a water hazard from the tee. The water hazard is 315 yds from the tee so distance is certainly not compromised in any way and I felt the supposed distance loss from the HX Tour to HX56 is negligible.

No wonder Phil won the PGA with this ball. :clapping:

got a box from a friend for christmas...

WHOAAAAA

threw one down right at the practice green. i'm a VERY streak wedge player..and i love to pretend i can hit the cut lob. first shot: hop, check, spin back, lipped out. i LOVE that short game spin. just as long as any other ball of the tee. it was marvelous. i just wish i had the 40 bucks to spend on balls when i have as many bad driving days as i used to have (no more thanks to mr. ping g5!). HxTour56 and HxRed are the king of golf balls.

I am not sure if i prefer the prov1 or the hx tour 56. I like the idea of the dimple technology on the callaway but something about the titleist gives me a little more confidence, I think it just looks better made, better quality. I am not a pro so don't notice any signifigant performance differences although I have noticed that the callaways seem to resist the wind a bit more. I have a mix of hx56's and prov1's in my bag right now and i'm happy what ever i reach in and pull out.

like the hx tour better, but the difference in durability is night and day. I find the hx tour cuts alot easier, while I can play this ball for an entire round, hit full wedges, alot of spin though, and after I clean it up good, the only marks are on the black callaway lettering, the ball looks completely new. better from 60 yards and in as well as putting than the hx tour, and shot for shot I like it better than the pro v1. Best soft ball out there in my opinion, I just like alittle firmer ball that clicks alittle, but 10/10 if you like the pro v1, truly a super ball

Maybe I had a bad batch, but I purchased a box of HX Tour 56's and found them to be rather fragile. The white paint over the ball would come off on almost every club, including my 3 Wood. Basically leaving a circle with paint missing from the ball. After 18 holes, only 3 of them stood up to the challenge and 9 were all messed up. Forget about it if you should hit a cart path/tree/etc, b/c it looks like you took a cheese grater to it. Granted, almost anyball (except for maybe Warbird, Top Rocks, or Pinacles) would get messed up from a tree/cart path/etc, but this was excessive.

Also I didn't seem to get the distance off this ball that I did off the HX Hot's unless I really put a hurt on this ball, then this was definately further. this makes sense b/c my swing speed is only around 96-99mph and maybe I can get it over 100 if I swing out of my shoes.

So I found no benefit for spending $15 more for a dozen balls over the Callaway HX Hot's.

Thanks,

This is an excellent ball. A lot of spin and it bites very nicely. The new versions don't mark up and you can actually make it through a round with one...assuming you don't knock it into the trees!

best ball I have ever played. the 56 has the best feal with all clubs most importent the putter. wedge play is sick people think I'm pro. hard to cut the cover 7,8,9,and P still trying but no luck. 18 holes no prob. I see alot of you comparing with prov1 but this ball is a prov1x or b330s. I'm longer with the hx tour 56 than the HX tour I don't no why.

soft / softer

HXtour / HXtour56

prov1 / prov1x

b330 / b330s

This is my ball of choice. I like the Prov1x alot but this HXtour56 is sick on short game shots.
You can make the ball do a lot.

I believe the questions was :"is it straight of the tee or does it spin a lot" That all depends on your swing. you can curve it. It is not like a distance ball that doesn't spin and always flys fairly straight. It will cut or draw and if you over do it, the ball will get away from you on the tee.

Other than that, the ball is excellent on mid irons and long irons. You can actually get some check off of the ball with a faded 3wd into the green on long par 5s.

Try them.. :busted2:

i got a pack of these because i decided to spring for some nice balls for matches last year and i loved them. i wish i could afford to play with them all the time, but the soft feel is just amazing. i got decent distance with them and amazing feel around the green

don't get too used to them, they have been replaced by the tour i, and tour ix

I just wish they would go on clearance soon at my local shops. I really like these balls for durability, spin and unlike some others I find that I don't lose any appreciable distance with them over other balls. If I can find them locally for $35/dozen (or less) again I'll get more.

Don't find it as long as a pro v and too much spin - but this is minor compared to the lack of durability. Doesn't last at all, so not something I'll continue with.

I see this all the time but I honestly cannot understand it. I have yet to have a HX Tour 56 not last until I lose it, often getting several rounds out of a single ball. The paint will come off of it, but there will be no real wear on the ball. It's not like I never have balls get too damaged to play - it happens all the time with the 2007 TM balls which I find get flaps from a single wedge shot, but I don't have any problems with the 56. I just picked up a dozen in 2-ball packs for $2/ball so I should be good for another month.

Finally got around to gaming some X-Outs Tour 56's . . .

Suppose I don't need to get too in depth, since what I have is all I'll ever use.

Durability- yeah, the cover shreds on full wedge shots, but does it affect performance? If it does, I couldn't tell. I shredded one on the first hole with my third shot- a full 53* from 110 . . . just peeled off the hangers and kept playing it. The ball stayed nice and white. I shredded it a little more with full and 3/4 wedge shots on subsequent holes.

Spin- driver- not too much, my XTD Pro is pretty straight anyways though, irons- seemed fine on a full 5i and 8i, wedges- a little more than I prefer . . . sucked back a 53* 25' from 105, chipping- pretty good spin, don't really hit floppers, but the ball stopped quickly when I asked it to.

Distance- seemed fine . . . no appreciable difference. Two/three piece distance balls like the Top Flight D2 series, HX Hot, Precept PWRDRIVE were all a club longer on irons, but shorter with driver . . . the HX56 is on par with Bstone B330/S and ProV1/X, etc.

Feel- they're fine, not too clicky, not too mushy, cover feels sticky to the touch, putts nice.

This ball has already been replaced by the i Series. I would say if you want more spin out of short irons and can find these for less than $30 a dozen- it's a good buy.

awesome ball. bought two dozen of these and two dozen of the hot bites from lostgolfballs, and man I wish I just would've bought like 8 dozen of the tour 56. Just great from tee to green. Might be a tad shorter off the tee but thats cool, it still goes out there with the best of them, and IMHO, offers incredible workability and great feel off all clubs and great spin on the greens. Really like the soft feel on the puter, too.

Im buying more.
