Circa '62s - Nothing Special

Onebulldogs

Recommended Posts

Pure marketing gimmick
A local golf superstore had a the new Scotty's available. While they had typical craftsmanship of the typical Scotty, I was very disappointed. Basically, they looked like repainted Studio Design models. It reminded me of when Pontiac would put some new plastic on a Grand Am and call it a new model.

Furthermore, it is rediculous that they are only available in one lenght for the price they are charging.

Ping, NC, Odessey, Yes all offer multiple lenghts and many offer different lie options.

Bottom line - nothing special.

NOTE - I am not a scotty hater. I have a Scotty and it is very nice. \

Rolled putts with all four of them last night and I was very unimpressed. The whole line seems like a redesigned version of the Studio Design putters. Also not a fan of the grip at all, there was no tack at all on these and the ribbing in the back was not comfortable at all. Tough to justify spending $300 on a putter to just replace the grip before it gets into the bag. I am a huge Scotty fan and I am really disappointed right now, huge let down for me :drinks:

I pretty much agree with all the comments here.

Not original enough.

Just looks like a rework. The stitchback Master Grip is not to my liking at all.

I putted with the #2 and #5 last night. I must be in a good putting zone over the last week, because I am putting extremely well no matter what I have in my hands. So my eval of the circa's would be biased.

#2 is very much a TP Mills copy from way back when. But then so are a lot of putters, it's not a big deal. If you were in the putting business trying to compete, you do have to offer similar/traditional designs, or you will not sell a lot. Aesthetics are to each his own. Overall, I think the finish and the design are an improvement on the Scotty vs Mills. Mills are great, but I never liked the big plus on the face or the huge fonts they use. However, neither have to do with putting.

My only complaint on the Circa 62s is they are too nice. I just can't see why I want to beat up a $300 putter in this crummy weather. It wouldn't take much to get a very noticeable scratch or ding, then it becomes a distraction when trying to putt.

The mallet is a perfect size. It looks a little funky but at setup/address, it looks really good and very easy to putt. That's a true example of function over form.

All that being said, I see a #2 in my future, just to have in the rotation for a once a month use.

I tried a Circa 62 today but I have to admit I was slightly unimpressed. They looked quite sweet but they were incredibly normal to putt with. Nothing truly amazing. I would find it hard to reccomend this putter considering the preposterous price tag.

I am very disappointed with those grips. I got a GripMaster one from them last week and it fit perfectly in my hands before I had it installed. The grip seemed to enlarge when they put it on the shaft and now its too big for my hands. I can't make a decent stroke with it without working very hard. They seemed to be a very good company as the color they sent me the first time was not to my liking and I returned it and they sent me one that was more suitable but if you need a smaller putter grip don't buy the stitchback. It's even bigger than the paddle Baby T I use normally.

For $300, you get 330g and 35 inches - cut it down and you have a putter for a 12 year old. The sight circle is huge and distracting. Form over function here.

Two words (3X) for this line:

bling-bling

Well, theres no doubt that Circa 62 is a GOOD putter,

i think certain people(including myself) finds no reason to pay $$$ for a putter thats barely any different from previous model,

i tried it, has great feeling and absolutely love it, but now you can get a Studio Design brand new putter for aroud 150-200 dollars, so why pay extra 100 or even more?

unlike the studio stainless, and style series putters, the spec of the putter is very limited, which is same as the studio design series, so i don't think Scotty did a very good job on it, they at least should've made it in a different lengths...IMO

just a thought,

not criticizinig anything, just hoping to see a better product in the future

thanks!

I don't think anyone should be discouraged by the 35'' shaft option, that's so far from a big deal. Bring it to your nearest golf store, and you are down possibly $5, or, if they rip you off terribly $10. Please don't worry about that too much. Consider it a tiny bit, but if the putter is a steal and you love it, go for it.

I'm sorry do you not get it? Scotty makes his putter the following ways:

36 inches-320 grams

35 inches-330 grams

34 inches-340 grams

33 inches-350 grams

He does so to maintain swingweight and proper balance. So the reason the guys are complaining(and they have a perfectly valid opinion) is because if you cut down a D3 putter from 35 to 33 you lose 12 swingweight points. That's a lot. To some guys that's a big deal. I'm currently playing a 330-340 gram head at 33.5 inches and it rolls the ball great for me, although its like C6 swingweight. I certainly wish it would be heavier because I love heavy sw clubs. I have no doubt if I had a 350 gram head I would have much better feel and distance control at the length I play my putter at. So to clear up what your saying, the guys who are complaining aren't necessary complaining about the length because that can be easily changed like you mentioned. Adding weight to a putter head is tricky to do properly, according to Scotty.

I was not very impressed at first either. We had a weather delay for our club opening day (thats why its called the ice breaker open) and started putting around the shop with a No.1, No.2 and No.3. Took the No.1 to the practice green and found that i really liked the feel. Replaced my belly putter with the No.2 before the event started (just giving it a try) ended up winning the opening event of the year with it, plus won enough shop credit to pay for it. Life is good and the putter is great! :)

I AGREE WITH EVERYONE ON THE LENGTH ISSUE, I ALSO USE A SCOTTY AND LOVE IT SO I AM NOT A SCOTTY HATER. I JUST WISH HE WOULD OFFER ALL OF HIS PUTTERS IN 33" - 34" - AND 35" LIKE ALL OF THE OTHER PUTTER MANUFACTURES. WHO WANTS TO THROW DOWN $300.00 FOR A PUTTER THEN START HACKING THE GRIP OFF TO CUT IT DOWN AND LOSE ALL OF THE HEAD WEIGHT, THEN PUT GLOBS OF LEAD TAPE ON IT AND RUIN ITS BEAUTY, THEN BE TOLD THAT IF IS NOT DONE RIGHT IT CAN CHANGE ITS FEEL. I JUST FEEL US BEING CONSUMERS AND THE ONES THAT PAY ALL OF HIS BILLS WOULD GET SOME OF THE SAME TREATMENT AS THE TOUR PROS WHO CAN GET ANY SCOTTY IN ANY LENGTH AND ANY HEAD WEIGHT AND NOT PAY A DIME. TO ME THE ONLY WAY TO GET A SCOTTY IN A DESIRED LENGTH IS TO THROW DOWN EVEN MORE MONEY AND GET A "CIRCLE T", THIS HAS BEEN BOTHERING ME EVER SINCE SCOTTY STARTED!!
