I put the Z-Star in play also and i REALLY like it. Played with it in the wind and it performed great, Very long for me with my irons. IMO it is a great iron ball. That is where the ball really shines. The driver is good also, the Z-Star X definitely goes further off the driver but lacks greenside spin.

The Z-Star on the green side is good but not the softest there is, but it's still my favorite ball overall i've tried this year.

It really is a nice all-around ball.

I was very skeptical because I didn't like any of the previous Srixon offerings. They were ok but they didn't stack up when compared to the other "premium" balls.

For me, the Pro-Vx is still a little longer. And the Cally Tour ix is a little better around the green.

Great all-around ball. Two things stand out during my few rounds with it so far

1) DURABLE, DURABLE, DURABLE, DURABLE DURABLE - did I mention it's hard to scuff this bad boy up?

2) as mentioned above, the ball really shines on iron shots. Really seems to hold its line and come down softly (maybe a couple feet of backup with the shorter irons)

I put up a post yesterday about the Z-Star and Z-star X. I was blown away how great they both played. I have been playing Bridgestone B330 and Cally Tour iX.....

I still think the iX is a tad longer than either Srixon, however, the Srixons played great, had awesome feel and great spin...but not too much. They also wear ALOT better than the Cally.

If anything, I liked the regular Z-star over the Z-star X....better feel IMO.

Me too - the things transformed me overnight from a guy with an adequate shortgame to a guy with a dangerous shortgame. On chancy holes I don't even look at the green sometimes because I feel so confident about getting up and down from the fringe. It's not that they spin so much, they just seem to be very responsive in terms of spin. I can dead-hand one in and have it release or I can hit a low stinger in and know it will check hard.

However, I did feel that I was losing distance on full driver swings due to excessive spin (I don't play an especially low-spin setup - '07 Burner/TP7x) so I tried the Z-StarX. Total nirvana - just as much greenside feel but 300 rpm less driver spin. I haven't found then extraordinarily durable but I'll usually get 18 out of one ball. The Cally Tour iX is just as long or longer, but has an odd sound which I don't care for, doesn't spin quite as predictably on chips, and besides, it's BEIGE right out of the box...

I had to update my WITB before I posted!! ;) My oldest son gave me a box for Father's Day. He said he thought I would like them.

I have been a TM TP Red guy for the last 2 summers and I did not think I would find a better all-around ball. Atleast equal in all

categories. D**m college kid. Thinks he's sooo smart!!! Ha!

O.T. Maybe the new TM Penta ball will knock this out of the bag.....

I once was a fellow Z-Starer.... But, I have joined the Cally Tour i fan club. Tour i performs MUCH better in the wind, and spins more (which I want).

I've actually switched from the Tour i to the z-star. Played some firm fast greens yesterday at a TPC course and the z-star was great. Short irons stopped really quickly, maybe even backed up a bit. Unfortunately the rough was at about 3 inches, so putting any spin on it with anything longer than a 9 iron was difficult, but I did have a 9iron from the rough that stopped dead on the green. And my new cally wedges with mack daddy grooves barely did any damage to the ball. I was shocked as I had been shredding range balls like mad since these were brand new clubs. I did like the tour i for a long time, but I just find the z-star to be a better ball for me, lots of spin, fairly long, and great on approaches and chips.

How does the Z-Star compare to the Bridgestone B330-S? Has anybody played both? I've been using the B330-S for a few years, but they do scuff up fairly easily. I like them in the wind, they are good off the driver and with my irons, the only thing I would like is a bit more spin around the greens.

I love the 330-s. but I've been a ball slut this season (I play around). I tried the Srixon and was impressed, but not enough to switch. My perception was that the Srixon was priced perfectly to it's performance relative to the super premium competition (e.g. Pro V, b330, ix). It's just a hair less than the other balls and it's priced that way. I'd have no problem playing either ball if given a random choice, but I'd still prefer the 330-S if given the choice. I'd have no problem buying either ball if a good sale came around.

Anyone lost distance off the driver with the Z-Star? I love this ball for putting, short game and durability but I feel like I've lost about 10 yds with the driver compared to the Pro v1X I normally play.

I agree with you totally. driver distance was inferior to the prov1x or tp red. i liked the other qualities, but i love some distance

For me it is longer than the TP Red, ProV1 and ProV1x. In fact, it has been getting me into trouble with length at times on my home course. Some hazards are now in play that were not before.

There must be something about my ss that matches the Z Star perfectly (it's 97-100 mph with the driver).

That's also been my experience. The Z-Star is a higher-compression (90 rating) ball that is not a good fit for my "pedestrian" (90mph) swingspeed, even though the Srixon website indicates a recommended swingspeed of 80+mph.

I bought a sleeve of Z-Stars and played 18 with one yesterday. Low spin and long off the tee, its great with irons and feels good off the putter. I purchased a box of them after my round and think I have found the right ball for me.
