Luke Donald, the newly-recrowned world No. 1 golfer, has long played Mizuno irons. He changed to the MP-59s at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship earlier this season, and his play to win the Transitions Championship was highlighted by an excellent 7-iron shot on the first extra hole. He went on to make his putt and win the playoff for his first victory of 2012.

Now, Mizuno is using Donald to emphasize how important the iron game is.

Following his win, the company unveiled a campaign called "The Iron Truth," which highlights how good iron play is key to lower scores. Mizuno is using Donald in "The Gospel According to Luke," a 49-second video (see it on YouTube at [url="http://youtu.be/97Z-sFOwy6w"]http://youtu.be/97Z-sFOwy6w[/url]) where Donald proclaims how iron play is vital to a good game.

"I'm living proof that in reality, good iron play is where the game can be won," Donald says in the video. "I was able to collect the No. 1 in the world not because I'm the longest off the tee, but because of precise iron play and a solid short game."

Mizuno hopes to make golfers at all levels focus less on long drives and more on getting the ball to the hole.

"We've always focused on irons as the most critical element of game improvement for golfers at every level, while other manufacturers continually exploit the sexiness of hitting big drives, to the detriment of the majority of golfers who'd be happier if they finally broke 80, 90, 100, or whatever their personal goal may be," said Dick Lyons, vice president and general manager, Mizuno Golf. "There's no better example of the superiority of iron play over driving than Luke."

The campaign will use ads, retail displays and social media to promote the MP-59s and Mizuno irons in general.

Luke Donald is a "straight" driver of the golf ball, unlike many amateur players who often find themselves peeing away strokes off the tee. Short and Crooked, worse than Long and Crooked.

Tour Issue S300? Must be a Tour only thing. I thought the only two options were X100 and S400 T.I.

Dont Care. I dont think hes that good. he certainly is not better than the other ten or so top players in the world. There shouldnt even be a world #1 now because nobody has separated themselves from the others.

It's interesting that you 'don't care', but that doesn't mean anything for the fact that he was NUMBER 1. Your feelings are interesting. But no one cares about them. And I wish people would stop saying things about 'nobody separating themselves'. By saying this, you are just comparing everyone to tiger. Tiger is the most dominating player of all time and probably will be considered so for a long time. There are allowed to be number 1's that aren't tiger, and it's likely that no one will ever separate themselves the way he did.

Pretty sure that was his CLK hybrid.....John Rollins used his R11 Hybrid on 18 from similar distance and the announcers called it a 3wd....

The shaft was green,NV green...
