I keep hearing that again and again, yet my irons have been covered the whole time I've had them (6 years I believe) and no problems yet as you can tell by the pictures.

+1 on iron covers for forged blades. They get nicked and dented so easily.

Instead of a staff bag, use a smaller bag and walk - little need for head covers when the irons aren't banging around, riding in a cart. it's better for your health and your game...

I am a huge fan of iron covers, and I don't care what anyone else thinks. I like to take care of my stuff, especially when it's as expensive as golf equipment. It feels nice to be able to look down at a bright, clean clubhead with every shot.

I use covers on forged clubs. If I had cast, I probably would not. Do I care some people don't like them? No. Should they care I use them? No. Now lets play some golf and quit whining like a bunch of women (sorry WRX women).

Even cast clubs, my last set was TM RAC LT, will get banged up, and the noise is annoying.

I work too hard and spend too much money on all this stuff. It makes me feel better keeping them in the best condition I can. Covers for sure.

I never used covers for my irons, but I'm considering it. I don't mind the bag chatter, I just hate seeing all the dents. Plus it will help in the long run if I decide to sell or trade it in to get the most value out of it.

Gone both ways on this one. Had the G15, cast, and left thme naked. Now have the Taylormade MC's and use covers. Like to keep them pretty for as long as i can. Forged irons are too soft and i usually sell my irons within a few years and can get more for them if they arnt too dinged up.

Wouldn't we all be much better off if the concern was on how well our clubs play, not how new they look?
How is one free to swing the golf club when there's worry about a pebble lurking underneath...

Of course we all have the choice and don't want to sound preaching but this thread just won't go away...

My Mizzy irons are new this year... look older than many who have clubs that are 3 years old.... don't care... they are irons... let em breath... I will buy new in a other couple years... and they will be NAKE'd too....

Irons are meant to pound the ground, I won't be caught dead with head covers on my irons. Heck for the longest time I used the original Rescue mid FW sans head cover. Only club I care to keep looking pristine is the driver mainly because I change them like I change my socks.

I do for about the first year. Basically they go on because they roll around in the bed of my truck until I get to the course. I also have mild OCD, so its not really [i]my[/i] fault

Yeah I agree, iron covers could be just another waste of time. Covering doesn't make sense after slamming irons into the grass, dirt, sand and grit shot after shot. Someone else here summed it up nicely... "tools not jewels."

I've said it before and, since this thread won't die, I'll say it again: How does it makes sense to cover EVERY other club in your bag EXCEPT your irons? As far as I am concerned, those who don't are the "odd" ones. Enough said!

Who said we cover other clubs? I have a putter cover, it comes off before I tee off. I have a driver cover, it stays in the trunk of the car when I get the clubs out to go play. I have covers on my two fairway wood or hybrid clubs, I take one off and leave on the one that sits right next to my driver in the bag so it doesn't nick the shaft. So yes, one headcover out of 12 clubs in my bag.

You, my friend, are the exception, then. Most people have covers on their woods, hybrids and putter. Bag chatter, for forged irons, does more to "damage" them then any playing wear. To me, it doesn't make sense not to protect them from that. It takes a fraction of a second to remove the cover before the shot and replace it afterwards. Why does anyone else care how I or anyone else treats OUR equipment? I don't bag on others for "abusing" their clubs so don't bag on me for covering mine!

I don't care how you treat your clubs one way or another. Just bemused by all the non-golf activities I see on the course. Whether dinking around with headcovers, minute-long preshot routines and preswing drills, cigars, beer, etc. It sure gets a long way from knocking the ball in the hole 18 times! But it's all good if you're enjoying it. Just funny.

Just traded in a couple of older wedges that I used for 5 years and the guy behind the counter says "Wow, these are in really nice shape. You must take care of your equipment....". I wear my covers proudly and don't give a damn what anyone thinks....

I am living with my irons getting chatter... I hate it, and I clean them after every shot and wash after every round too.... Just cant stand to have cover on them... Just looks dorky.

Naked, mostly because I find it irritating to take a cover off and then put it back on after each shot ... hell, I can't even keep my clubs organized within my bag, let alone screw around with covers.

Impact from golf balls and the turf does more to cause wear and nicks to your irons than anything else, by far.

I use them only in transit (bed of my F150) and when i walk. I like to enjoy a quiet walk on the mornings I play alone without the rattle.

I don't mind when people do if I'm playing with them.. but looking at it from a bag room attendant standpoint I hated them. Worked five years at our local club, and to be honest I was probably the only one who ever cleaned a set of irons with covers. Nobody wants to spend ten minutes cleaning a bag for a 2 dollar tip. But, if you want to keep your clubs protected fine by me.
