If you want your irons to stay pristine better put en into your closet. Iron covers are goofy and frustrating.
And when he decides to use those irons, he can come out of the closet and put on the iron covers.

What the hell happened to this great game... It's more important to look a certain way than to actually play these days.

Iron covers? Can't imagine using them, heck I hate messing with the covers on my woods and putter, in fact once I hit the first tee the cover comes off and stays off the driver, it doesnt get dinged up because it is longer and sits on top of my fairways which I keep the covers on. I take care of my clubs but don't obsess over them.

Same here. I think it would be such a pain to get taking them off for every shot. Plus, I've heard that they trap moisture and can actually "damage" the clubs. Personally, I like a bit of bag chatter on my irons as it makes them look like they are tool and not jewels as someone previously posted.

Drape a towel over them; they won't chatter as much.

First and foremost, you should be walking, not riding, and the covers add a lot of unnecessary weight.

In addition, the sound of club chatter is one of the charms of the game, especially if there is no paint to chip, as in the case of a driver. Enjoy that sound and others like the should clubs make when they come out of the bag; don't mute them. Not to get all mystical, but sound is part of the Zen of what we do when we play golf.
Not all guys can walk due to medical issues.
There's absolutely no way they add enough weight to be noticeable.

I use covers because its annoying when im using my carry bag and the clubs are clattering off each other when walking along. My clubs are forged too and i wipe them down after each round and then dry the covers for the next day.

I bought these covers on ebay... very cheap

Also sharp is the way he haphazardly crams his umbrella into the driver slot.

I have a set of covers for my 690.cb's but I only use them if they are gonna have to ride in the back of my truck on a road trip. Would never consider using them on course, but don't mind people who do. I do give my buddy who uses them a ton of ß#*! about it though. I walk 90% of the time and when the temp is approaching triple digits I do believe every little bit of weight make a difference.

Man I love those Mizuno covers. And if I had a set of those TM's I too would put covers on them. At the end of the day it is you who should feel good about your decision and not fall into peer pressure.

And if you make a few bucks off your buddies or win a tourney or two with or without headcovers then good for you.

Used them religiously initially, now they make it on them only when they're in the trunk.
I can see guys with new forged irons iron [s]condoms[/s] covers. Bag chatter is like oxidation though - once it covers the entire surface evently (patina) it looks good in another kind of way. Some people don't like that look though. They tend to paint over antiques and use plastic covers on the good sofa. Whatever.

If youre going to use iron covers, go ahead and get yourself a top notch ball retriever, golf watch, and stroke counter that hangs off of your belt buckle. If your irons are so precious that they cant chatter a little then leave them in a glass case at home or donate them to Golf House.

Iron covers are the sure sign of a hacker who felt the need for a useless golf gadget. You can bet there's a ball retreiver and some type of score counter with the bag too.
I would wholeheartedly disagree with you. I have played with many accomplished players (including myself) that use iron covers. I doubt the guy who posted earlier with the Taylormade Japanese irons is a hacker, at 1300.00 a set. You should re-think your statement because it simply is wrong.
Here's the thing about your statement of use and game... Over the last twenty years I've played golf in many of the states, and still play a reasonable number of rounds during my travel in MI, TX, and lots in AZ and CA. I don't recall one golfer that had an index below say 6 that used head covers. Part of all my play included inter-club team and regional amateurs.... NOT one. I am not saying you  don't exist or t they don't exist but... golly I've played with a lot of people over the years.

And, price of clubs has nothing to do with whether he or she has a game. In general I think the guy you posted to was right... you and your friends just might be oddities, and I don't mean that in a bad way. :drinks:

A though just popped into my mind. As much as people on this board and elsewhere on the internet use tour players as examples for their actions or decisions, how come I've never seen a tour player wandering down the fairway with head covers on his irons... yet so many golfers on this board pick their clubs because of what the tour player uses. figure that.
Easy to answer... ...the reason that one does NOT see a professional player using iron-head covers, is strictly due to the fact that at the drop of a hat, the company that they represent will provide them with another club or set of clubs -- we as the unwashed masses, we do NOT get that treatment -- we have to buy a new one.

I would bet that a professional goes through one or two partial sets in addition to the set he starts the season with. Who knows? All I know is that because someone else does or does NOT do something is not a reason to do or NOT do something yourself.

Irons covers look ridiculous. Try rolling up to a serious game at our local club, youd be laughed off the first tee. They hit the ground repeatedly time after time, they dont need covers
I wonder how much they'd laugh if, at that very same 'first tee' the Cover user stripes one 295 down the center of the fairway?

Golf is NOT a 'cool contest' and those that try to make it exactly that, well they are UNCOOL!

Ya want to use covers? Go for it. Ya don't? Go for it! It is exactly the idiots who do stuff like this that takes the game down a bit. I would wonder if a survey was conducted concerning 'douches' who complain about an issue (like iron covers) that is really none of their friggin' business as compared to 'douches' who believe that copper bracelets make them 'supermen'? Betcha a lot of them have commonality.

I'm off the iron cover wagon. Never liked messing with them, but I wanted to keep my brand new irons looking brand new. I picked up a set of used Titleist 735CMs and they look great banged up. I am the person that started this post. I think it is clear that most people prefer to not use covers, and that's cool. Your choice. I have never used covers before and have played blades my whole life. This is a set that is 10 years old and brand new. I thought maybe I could keep them pristine for a bit, but I am sure in 1 year I will either have lost them or gotten sick of screwing with them. I must admit though, I did not expect such a heated discussion with so many posts. So let's all just shake hands and smile. I've learned It rarely matters what a guy looks like or the equipment he plays that determines how bad he beats you. Let's just grind our teeth waiting for golf weather so the suffering can end, hurry up Masters!!!!
