Aldila VS Proto "By You" Shaft

Just installed a VS Proto 80X tipped 1" into a Cally X-Tour 15*. Will hit it on Saturday.

Could somebody who has played with both compare this to the Fuji SIX?

The SIX is ultralight, but weight issues aside, how do they compare performance-wise?

 

I've hit about 10 balls with a six several years ago and currently have a back up R7 with a VS 80x. From my recollection of the six, these shafts are polar opposites. The VS is one of the lowest lauching shafts I've ever played and I play virtually nothing but high kick shafts. The Six, on the other hand, was much lighter, more tip soft, soft to flex, and designed to hit the ball much higher. These shafts are the proverbial apples and oranges. (my one caveat is an assumption that the lighter VS shafts have the same characteristics with a lighter weight)

I hit the VS Proto 80x in my 3 wood and it was great. Funny thing is my swingweight with the X-Tour is D5 at 43 inches and I thought that it might be a problem, but so far so good.

 

It made a ok club real good!

Are you referring to just the 80 gram version? Many seem to say the VS launches higher and that is what Aldila touts as one of the key virtues of this shaft. Iim tying with a 60 gram version but being a high enough ball hitter, fear it may only just increase my already high launch angle.

VS Proto 60S is what I'm playing in my R510TP right now and it does launch HIGH. Higher than I expected really (after having read about how it plays between NV and NVS and all...). But I like it!

 

Distance has been average for me but i've only put 36 holes on this combo. I have a feeling that the shaft has a potential to do better for me with other heads on it...and I'm thinkning Cobra or 905R or etc etc.

 

FEEL is what's great about this shaft. It feels just like how I want a driver shaft to feel which is hard to explain and very personal, I know.

 

Now, I'm sure VS70 and 80 may play completely different in terms of launch.

I have the VS Proto 70S in an Adams 16 deg 4060 (tour prototype) Fairway put together by Don Wood at For Golfers Only in Temecula, CA. At first, I thought WOW! this thing feels almost too soft, but WOW again - it is an incredible feeling shaft/club. :help: Major kudos to Don, Steve and Dave at FGO. This club is my new favorite. I like the shaft so well that I've pre-ordered it in the Rapture.

However, I am a low to mid ball hitter already, so would this be a good combination for me, or because of the lower launch this shaft seems to provide, should I keep looking for the right hybrid shaft for me?

.... itis not a low launching shaft at all. it launches a bit higher than the nv, but lower than the nvs. the tip stiffness is much closer to the nv than the nvs and the torque is lower than both. imo, you get the best of all worlds, with incredible feel, a high flat launch and low spin. i am hittin it a ton with the vs proto's, and the 95 hybrid is just perfect for... well... a hybrid! like the 3 bears, the 105 was too heavy and the 85 too light. the 95 is a perfect compliment to and progression of the 70, 80 then 95.

I'm currently in love with my Diamana x83 Blue in stiff. How does the VS compare? What is the launch like in comparison? I'm interested in trying one out...

I just had the buy you proto shaft put in my tour 905R 9.5. What a great combo. I love it.

I have an 80g X flex in my HFS, i hit it the other day for the first time.

 

I am usually a Pro 95 guy, but i liked the way the VS felt and performed, i will need a little more time to see for sure, but first impressions are very good .

This is an old post, I realize...but I just bought this shaft in an i-mix S flex to try in a Cally FT-9 head. Any further thoughts?

I just bought 4 from Dallas Golf for $30 each. Gettin' rid of the mothballs I guess. Specs look good for the shaft though.
