I am pleased to show all of our Golfwrx members the new Callaway X-tour prototype irons. I would also like to thank the Callaway staff and Roger Cleveland for allowing us the time to talk golf and equipment. I was at the PGA yesterday and met Roger Cleveland and the Callaway team. I was able to capture some great Pictures of the new X-tour prototypes as well as some comparison Pics with them and the current X-Tour irons with a "T-grind" on them.

Can a fellow WRXer please explain to me what is meant by a "T-Grind"?

Thanks!!

Do we know for sure that these irons will be forged as one peice?

Is so, they got me :help:

I usually find that with a "players" cavity back the short irons (wedge in particular) don't fit my eye - the 9 iron in the Proto's look pretty good.

They are on my hit list :wave:

Thanks Richard - you continue to amaze me with the awesome pics you get. :)

One piece forging, per Callaway.

Reason #1,000,001 why I love GOLFWRX.com.

Thanks, that is good! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Atta Boy Richard!!! :) Did ya come away with any goodies??? :clapping:

I did. Bob from Sonartec gave us some proto wedges to review.

Just got word, in honor of Phil Mickelson, Cally will release these new X Tours to lefty's and Candian's first. Release date is April 1.

Okay Cally just got me :help:

Finally some Lefty Respect - soon (April 1) I will have 2 special lefty sets :wave:

:) Cheers to Cally & Phil Mickelson - without him us Lefty's would not get this type of product.

Is Callaway reading this thread...they should be. Those are great looking irons

Hopefully they are reading and figure out that they need to release these like they are pictured, i.e. no need for big changes such as medallions in the cavity, more markings etc. If they do release these like they are they will sell a ton of sets. I'll have my preorder in ASAP if they end up like those pictured.

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

These iron are simply beautiful.

Callaway definitely come through and really step up to the plate where this iron suppose to be as a players cavity forged iron.

I've always like the forgiveness and feel of the existing iron, but i only have issue w/ the bounce angle and width due to my style of hitting the ball. I can almost say that this one will be perfect and i should have no complaint anymore.

Wow, I can wait to get a set to play them and give you guys a full review on them.

I can be wrong, but in no way these can be better than the actual ones!

Yes the look of the top line may be better... but that's all of it.

The characteristic of the actual X-Tour is the design which combines the Callaway forgiveness with the Forged feeling and size of a player iron. And that made them a winner!

Good point but there are many here that feel they need something more traditional to match their games (get rid of that horrible wide sole and that unsightly undercut cavity and garish medallion). But don't forget they seemed to work pretty well for phil and michael. While I will get to evaluate a set I certainly will keep my "originals" even when they or their final version come to retail.

Sorry...

I still don't get it. If that is the best that Callaway can do for a tour quality Iron then I still won't go near them.

What can you tell us about the quality of these irons? I can't tell that much from pictures. If you don't like the design that's fine but I seriously doubt you know anything about the quality since I believe those shown are the only set in existance to date.

They look awesome. :wave: Certainly mutch thinner than the previous X-Tour iron. My only concern is are these going to sell. Looking at them they appear to be competing directly with Mizuno and Titleist irons. Is this a wise move? I'm not sure that most low handicappers would buy these over MP-60s or 735.CMs. I really hope I am wrong though because they are sweet. Great photographs again :help:
