Over the winter, I replaced my 3 iron with a Callaway Big Bertha Strong 7-wood, and my 4 iron with a Nickent 3DX Ironwood (23*). Unfortunately, I broke my leg and tore ligaments in my ankle playing softball at the end of April, and I just started golfing again, so I've got less than 10 rounds in this year. So far I've found them both much more forgiving than the irons they replaced, but also much harder to keep the trajectory down. The 7-wood (19*) in particular likes to balloon on me.

Yep. still carry 3 and 4's, and, 90% of the time, a 2-iron. I don't hit them like Tiger, but I get a usefuly-high trajectory and flight which is more consistent than a hybrid. Admittedly, the 2-iron only really works off a peg or a good lie, but it works for me..

I don't hit a towering ball, more of a medium-flight, but I still get good value from all my long irons and haven't gone to hybrids yet..

I've experimented with the whole gammett.

Finally settled on the setup listed in my sig. My 4i is lofted at 22* so it's like a slightly weakend 3i. 5i is @ 25*.

I use to use the 3 iron but I find that I can hit the airmuscle higher with a better gap distance between it and my 4 iron. I use to only hit my 3 iron 210 and my 4 iron 205 with the addition of the airmuscle 21* 3 iron I can get a comfortable 15 yard gap in distance as well as hit it higher. The thing I like about he hybrid is that it is still a boring trajectory and the wind does not affect it as much as what others say or at least in my opinion. A solid 3 iron hybrid will carry just as well into the wind as my 3 iron but carry 10 yards further.

The thing I have noticed with the hybrids is that I can hit the shot I want and hit the green 7 or 8 out of 10 where with the stock 3 iron that percentage goes down to 4 out of 10 just because I fly it lower and have a very difficult time having it bite on firm greens.

The hybrids for me as made a huge difference in scoring for me.

i really wanted to like my halo.............but can't hit the thing.......always topping the ball in all situation no matter what i try.......3 and 4 irons play way better for me............they say hybrids are the easiest to hit.......i dont think so.......i love my 3 and 4 irons more and i can hit them way better........just my .02

holla!

I still carry a 4-iron, a 2-Rescue Mid and a 3-wood. The gaps in loft may not make sense to most, but I can hit the rescue from 200-235 very easily and was actually considering getting a 1-Hybrid to replace the 3-wood. But the 3-wood's been well behaved lately so he gets a reprieve. I have no trouble punching the rescue low so don't share the experiences of others here.

Whatever works and gives you confidence should be in your bag.

I still have the 3 and 4 iron in the bag, but have a 19 Taylormade dual. The loft matches up with that of the 2 iron from the set I have so that is the reason I carry that and not the Taylormade dual 16. I like the 3 and 4 irons better because they are easier for me to work. I have an easier time flighting and shaping the ball with my long irons than my hybrid. The 19 tm dual has two launch angles for me, high and higher. I really have to work hard if I want to get the ball flight of say a 5 wood. I also have an easier time controlling distance into long par threes. If I have a 200 yard par three with a back pin, I'm able to hit a 4 iron and allow for the ball to hit in the middle of the green and release back to the pin. That results in closer shots than when I hit a high lofted hybrid or fairway wood and have to try to fly it pin high, knowing that it will spin like crazy when it hits.

i still use a 4-iron, but i got rid of my 3-iron. i hit them both about the same distance, which left a big gap at the long club end of my spectrum. i have replaced the 3-iron for a cleveland halo 22* (w/ harrison striper hybrid shaft) or a tm dual 19*. for some reason these two fly about the same distance for me, with the cleveland going a lot higher.

Took out the 3 and 4 and replaced with 20* and 24* Mizuno CLK. I, from time to time, miss a lot of fairways and have a lot of opportunity to "create" shots :cheesy:. I can hit cuts, draws (and hooks), low shots, high shots...all the shots I hit with the irons before i hit now with the hybrids. The difference is that I hit the green from 200+ at a much higher rate, especially on the par threes. I did try several brands and types of hybrids before I found some I didn't hook on every shot.
