Shot your age thread

Recommended Posts

"I matched/equaled my age" ..... post here
My buddy Trav told me his dad shot his age the other day...

And I wondered if we had a thread for this on GolfWRX.

JR Steigman posted a 73 at his home course in TN. He drives the ball around 170 yards and has hybrids up to an 11 in his bag!

Congrats JR! :clapping:

I am 65 and have numerous rounds in the 60's every year but have not quite made it yet...I have shot 64 but that was when I was in my late 50's.....Hope springs eternal!!!

I used to play my regular course with a SENIOR golfer who did it so regularly it was as if anyone could do it.....last time I played with him he was mid 80's and still shot in the 70's routinely....white tees at about 6100 yds. He told me he had shot his age over a 100 times that year. You guessed it.........he had played golf his whole life and had been a caddie and a pro "Back in the day"

I play fairly regularly with a gentleman at our course that's 85 this year and I've yet to see him shoot over his age in the past 3 years.

I play with a senior golf group 2 days a week. (I'm 55)

Neil is 83..... this guy is a freak o nature.... just dawned on me that he shoots upper 70's, low 80's every time out.

Couple of other guys shoot their age or better as well.

I hope it's a while down the road but I do plan on shooting my age one day
we have a gentleman at my home club who is 76 and he shoots his age from the senior tees quite a bit. I have actually played with him on 2 occasions when he had done it. Funny thing is he only carries 10 clubs and the only irons in his bag are his PW and 56* SW. No fairway woods all the rest hybrids except for the driver. He utilitizes the hybrids better than anyone I have ever seen. He can play a variety of shots with them from a bump and run to a soft high cut that will stop on a dime. He never was a pro or anything in fact he is a retired Government Service Agent.

I've come somewhat close (4 shots) but never pulled it off. It is on my golf bucket list. My buddy did it last year when he shot a 64 on a par 71. Funny thing was we were in different foursomes in league play and I shot 68 which at the time was my best score. I was all puffed up and anxious to show him my card. He looked at it and said what a great round it was. I asked what he shot and in a nonchalant manner he handed me his card without saying anything. Took me down a notch.

Hope to one day. Just a function of age and golfing ability. Need to live long enough and continue to improve my game. Presently, that would be about 91 (at my current state of affairs).

Major kudos to anyone who can accomplish shooting their age.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!
To begin with great round! I know how you feel though. When I first went to Florida to the minis I thought I was a hot shot. I had been playing those courses around the house in the mid 60s quite regularly. First round first tournament pretty hard course and I was not used to playing in Florida different atmosphere elevation and grasses and tougher course. I scrapped around and shot a 70 on a par 72 layout. thought to myself I am going to show those boys something I have arrived. When I turned in my card and saw other scores posted on the hand written boards---- I sagged and all the air went out of me--- there were a lot of 67s and a couple of 65s on there. My 70 had me in about 20 th place out of about 40 players--- Yep I darn sure had arrived--- That episode un nerved me so bad I think I shot 76 or 77 the next day and on a 2 day tournament shot me straight out of the money in fact I think I finished next to last.
