Yes it is if you want distance. What you should fix is the lefts. And its fixable.
I thought the point was to control your distance...not just to hit for distance. Did you suddenly become a long drive
competitor sir? ;)
Nope. The point is getting BOTH distance and accuracy. That's what Hogan is all about, ain't it? Getting just distance is easy. Getting just accuracy is easy. But BOTH? Heck, if I just want either I would never have wasted my time studying Hogan...

Yes HG, that's it - the full, hard pivot and resulting forces on arms/club together with keeping the triangle "open" will result in AH for T. But Hogan didn't do that. :nono:
But you gotta do something to make this happen. You'll never gonna understand it unless you've studied TGM.
That something is rolling the face open on the BS and arching the left wrist on the DS, which delays the clubhead behind the hands. Then you can snap the triangle closed as hard as you can with the pivot, and not hit it left.

This I can see and agree with. I am not sure it is necessary but certainly a way to get it done. BUT, IMO, this is 100% different than "rolling".

Also, in this description, I think the arms are passive, other then the left wrist bone arch.

Yes, "rolling" would be an active left wrist roll - Horizontal Hinging, which is different than the natural "half roll" of the left wrist/clubface, which happens non-actively with passive arms, as the triangle closes - Angled Hinging.

Not really. I really meant the "rolling" during the DS...Rolling literally and TGM-wise...the rolling actually results to a non-cupped wrist..but there's no conscious bowing, nor conscious trying to remove the cup (if you slightly cup on top for a fade)...just true Rolling of the L wrist...

Maybe the question is...What will truly delay the closure of the face no matter what you do? Even if you roll the snot out of your L wrist? Heck even if you fire #1 hard, it wouldn't close...in fact if you fire #1, it would close even later...provided of course you don't consciously Unbend the R wrist...

I chuckle when the golf analysts say that Dustin Johnson's clubface at the top of his backswing is "shut".

It's actually perfectly square to the arc of his swing.
+1 Bowing or cupping on TOP, when the L wrist is fully cocked at 90 degrees, just delofts or add loft to the face...

My idea of swinging: (This is how I see Hogan's finish)

My idea of hitting: (Notice the bent right elbow at impact) This is how I see Hogan's initial downswing when he uses irons.

Now imagine if the Hammer thrower was told that he had to use a hitting action at his olympic competition.
And imagine if the Wood Chopper was told that he had to use a swinging action at his Stilh championship.

What would be the result?

That's physically impossible. Everyone's clubface is open at the top to some degree. :nea:

Which arm did Hogan use to control BS?

Didn't he specifically say to use the left arm?

He may have said that. That's not what he did.
my guess is he used both arms ;-)

what he feels the slightly dominant arm is another matter............. I suggest Texhoma you experiment for yourself, to understand you......... pivot correctly and hit the top of your backswing (wherever that may be) using just the left, then do the same with just the right, then try both together............. this should give you feeling and feedback as to the proper balance of each arm.

So why ask? You seem to know the answer already... What is it then? I'd say BOTH arms, but his main thought is the L arm as the main "instrument". The R arm has to do something to not interfere though...

so if you asked him and he told you whatever he told you and you know the answer I don't understand why you are asking us.
All we can do is go based off what he said or with our guesses based on old swing footage.
