so how about we have a discussion here about what they are discussing there? I read the first 10 or so pages. It's mostly just 4-5 dudes telling Tee Ace he's bananas with certain guest dudes coming in to defend Ace.

I am one of the 6 or 7 dudes. At the moment I am second on Tapio's moron list behind a guy named footwedge.LMAO

Tapio has come up with a few new theories since this thread here.He now believes that passive supination can occur even though the player actively pronates his forearm.Forces from inertia beats the effort of pronation and you can end up supinating.Total and utter crackpot.

What is wrong with the idea of actively trying to pronate on the downswing to keep the face open. I do this kind of.

Martin teaches this with his "sling". Slice teaches this with the "don't let the toe catch the heel" comments. It is all a different way of accomplishing the same thing. In fact once I was asking Slice about hooking too much and asked him about the grip, he said that is really the triangle not being open long enough. It is the same thing Tee has been saying all along. So Tee has bad English and it comes out screwy and you guys jump all over him.

The club head is going to cause the left arm to supinate a bit, you just don't fire it unless you want to hit one behind you.

so while the player 'turns his left hand palm down' on his backswing...magically he is also supinating? How does that one work?

Ok, let's resume the discussions in this supination thing...lol...this is perking me up...lol

Let me put this question, please answer as honestly as possible...(again, I'm for learning, not throwing dirts at one another...)

What is the most efficient way to hit the ball long? Regardless of accuracy/direction?

if you just wanted to maximize clubhead speed without caring about accuracy or direction...probably doing a happy gilmore and turning as much as I can in the process in my 'backswing'. That way you can put even more momentum into it.

What does that have to do with finding out more about hogan...and in this case about tee ace's theories?

Ok. Assuming you've turned as much as you can, or have restrained the hips and legs against the upper body/shoulders as much as you can in the BS, how will you hit it as far as possible in the DS?

My answer is I'm gonna supinate the hell out of my L forearm and turn the hell out of my L upper arm/elbow. Edit: With the body/pivot still the main engine, it is also turning as hell.

Any objections?

I don't think consciously doing anything with my left arm will do the trick. If I want to hit it harder I open the clubface as much as I can on the backswing and really rotate hard on the downswing wth my body. That could very well make my left arm supinate more...but that probably happens after i've hit the ball. It's closing faster for sure...that's why I have to open it more on the backswing...but then again you've said direction doesn't really matter. So in my case it's just turn harder with the body. I don't agree that flinging at it with my arm will give me more speed. I think it will give me less speed because i'll be slowing my body rotation down a bit to focus on the flinging of my arm.

Have you tried it Tembs? No worry about direction. Just turn as hard as before, and supinate as hard as well from the top. Even if you hit it way left, measure the carry in a straight line from where you are standing to the spot where the ball carried/fell. You get same distance as what you are doing?

i've tried the arm slinging on a trackman before yes. I get the same speed as body rotation one...but hit it about 80 yards left. Haha.

What's the point?

No. Not JUST arm slinging. You still do what you are doing as you describe it---turn your body as hard/fast as you can. But you ADD or let the clubhead go faster by supinating to let the hinge work most efficiently.

With this, you saying you have same distance? Don't worry about the target. If you worry about getting the ball on the target, you will consciously or subconsciously compensate to "steer" the face and hit the ball towards the target. Just turn as hard as you can with BOTH body and L arm supination thing.

If you still think you will have same distance, I can't believe that Tembs. I hit it on the other side of the range, yeah around 60-80 yards left, but I added around 15 yards on a pitching wedge measuring from where I stand to the spot where the ball carried when I tried it for the first time.

What is wrong with the idea of actively trying to pronate on the downswing to keep the face open. I do this kind of.

Martin teaches this with his "sling". Slice teaches this with the "don't let the toe catch the heel" comments. It is all a different way of accomplishing the same thing. Nothing wrong with it if it suits your pattern. Most players don't lay it off like Hogan and some get a little steep on the transition.A little reverse tumble will get things back on plane.Reverse tumble is similar to keeping the triangle open. It's not what Hogan did though.

Martinez and Tapio both have steepish transitions if you compare them to Hogan.I have not seen Slices' swing so I can't comment on him.

As for the clubhead supinating the forearm, that is entirely your opinion unless you can prove it.Most players especially those new to the game suffer an open face to the path slice so if anything the clubhead will tend to pronate the lead forearm if left to it's own devices. If your theory is true, then the hook should be the problem for most people.

No he's talking about the downswing.Player actively pronates but forces from inertia will overcome the effort by the player and you will end up supinating even though you are pronating like heck.

To your comment right above and to this - I think the difference is most beginners swing with their arms and have b.s. pivots. That is why hooking is a better players problem. They are also generally over the top. Coming from an inside path with a solid pivot, the face is going to close. I am astonished that you really don't agree. Not trying to be rude.

Slice's better guys don't have steep transitions.

I may be misunderstanding what you are saying, but a reverse tumble isnt doing to steepen anything. And the reverse tumble isn't necessary if you are already open/laid off anyways. I am just saying to keep it open, not necessarily open it more (although some may need to). It is just a feel and not necessarily real. I have no idea what Tee is saying, I dont have time to read 300 pages of people calling each other idiots, but I am writing all this with the assumption that he is referring to fighing the closing of the triangle, which I (and many) believe closes on its own due to physics squaring the face.
