Going Out of Business

I was in a 2nd Swing store last night, and the guy told me to use my credit because the whole chain is going out of business. They apparently plan to begin liquidating soon.

Not suprising (with other chains now taking trades and 2nd Swing charging too much for used clubs), but it's still a shame.

i live in the pittsburgh area and a buddy of mine worked at the 2cd in Robinson and he told me the same thing, that they were going out of buisness. that is why he works at GG now...

Here in Illinois 2 stores have already closed:Schaumburg and Vernon Hills. Me and a friend were in there like 3-4 weeks back and he wanted to do custom orders, the guy said they cant do it at the moment. THe whole chain was also out of golf balls to buy so I knew it didnt look good. Its a shame yes but their operation was so poorly mismanaged its hard to feel that sorry for them. THe used prices were insane at times and having a VERY limited selection of new clubs hurt. The trade in values were indeed the best yes but were quickly offsetted by the used club prices.

I just taked to my local 2nd swing, and it is true. They guy at the store told me as of yesterday, 9/20, they were bought out by a liquidator. He said they will be dropping prices within the next few days and if you have a store credit, use it ASAP. Just a heads up to everyone out there.

Thanks for the heads up. I have $100 credit I need to use, but I may wait until the prices drop real low.

I agree their trade in prices were good, sometimes too good, but they didn't keep up to date on the real retail prices of golf clubs.

Some examples:

New Hogan cs-3 driver $99 everywhere

used $144 @ 2nd Swing

 

New slingshot oss irons $599

used $619 @ 2nd swing

 

In many cases the used prices on hot drivers like the sq, hibore, r7 460, ft-3, etc are only $10-$30 off the retail price for them new.

 

On the other hand, I just picked up a mint j33r 460 for $139 w/headcover @ Golf Galaxy.

 

I wonder if another part of their demise was from offering cash (in the form of co. check) for traded in items?

I also just noticed that they pulled all of their Ebay auctions. They usually have hundreds of clubs for sale in auctions.

I just came back from the store near me, and the store manager told me that they're NOT honoring store credit any longer....

It looks like they have filed bankrupcty and plan to close about 15 stores. The CEO is looking to sell the company. I found this information on this website:

Upon further research, it appears they are in fact going to close all their stores (not just 15 like they did the first time through Chap 11) and liquidate. They're reportedly trying to sell the goods in the Minnesota warehouse as a package deal.

 

The guy who runs the local stores told me once that he wasn't worried about Ebay because people strongly prefer to hold and hit clubs before they buy. Maybe so, but now Ebay is selling 4,100 clubs a day...and 2nd Swing will soon be gone.

From what I've read and heard DON'T WAIT to use your credit. When the deal happens the credit will be lost and you'll be SOL. Better safe than sorry if everything turns out like we've heard.

Thay had a 2nd swing opened here in the Malvern/Wayne area for only 3 months at the Valley Forge shopping center.

 

It was like the FBI came and swept them away, I was at the store until 5pm the day before they closed, went back next afternoon and they had brown paper up on the windows and the sign saying "SPACE AVAILABLE, FOR LEASING INFO cntct######

 

A new Golf Galaxy also just opened on Swedesford Rd no more than 9/10ths of a mile away.

 

Did not last long at all.

You're right - the stock is pretty much non-existant at that store. I had almost $100 credit and wound up picking up 3 used wedges - 2 Clevelands and 1 TM. Obviously, not the greatest deal around, but better than losing the money altogether.

 

As far as discounts go - as I was at the store, they started hanging the "Going-out-of-business" posters. At this point, they are offering 20% off everything.

Yeah I got my first metal headed driver at the shaumberg location but they wanted way to much for used clubs and they had a GG pretty close to there location.

I WORK THERE....the business is closing unfortunatly, the concept was fantastic but once some changes were made about a year ago...things started to slip from us.

 

I am starting another job soon, but there will be a liquidation sale taking effect as of today. you are able to use your credit at this time, but not for long. DO NOT LISTEN TO WHAT OTHER WRXers say about the credit being taken, none has dissappeared as of this afternoon, i do not work again until monday, i will try and keep you posted.

I went to a store in the st. louis area and they said all the stores would be closed within 6 weeks, maybe sooner. Anyone know if will offer even better discounts than 20% off
