Who did Hogan say had the finest swing he had ever seen?
Wild Bill Melhorn?
The one I'm most aware of is Mickey Wright, whom HF cited. However it was a bit of a trick question because I think he was alleged to have said this about more than one person.

Reference to Wright ....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh5DZw2yi-Q&feature=related

.... and Melhorn ....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg7Gr-93IRo

Note however the Melhorn one doesn't say "swing."

I think there may be others beyond Wright and Melhorn.

Another one, 1989 NY Times article cited Hogan as saying George Knudson had the "sweetest swing in professional golf."

There is absolutely no conclusive proof that is Mehlhorn. Can't see his face and we know from that era it's easy to confuse him for another player. Its happened to Hogan many times already. There would have to be other videos of him to confirm he flips it like a 20 hadicapper.

I believe Hogan said that Mehlhorn was the best he saw from tee to green. The best swing he saw was Mickey Wright. You would have think though that the best from tee to green would have the best swing also.

I believe that this was in reference to players who were on tour at the time.

Odd. I know they didn't have kids but what about guest capacity? Unless they had a separate guest house this seems kind of cold.

Having a one bedroom house is the perfect excuse not to have people over, especially the in laws.LOL

Can't say for certain that was Hogan's motive but I sure as heck wouldn't be surprised given his cold nature.
Many have confused his shyness, desire for privacy, extreme powers of focus and concentration and "to the point" style for coldness. The many books I have read about Mr. H all talk about his kindness, caring for others and sense of humor. He may not have suffered fools, but he was "professional" in all aspects of his life ... something many of today's athletes could certainly learn from.

Is Hogan right or left handed?
lefty
Nope ... According to the man himself he was a natural right hander. Check out the Golf Magazine interview below where he clears up that myth. Note his answer to the second question.

One bedroom, but the house had a den that could easily be converted to accommodate a guest. The separate house was occupied by the couple who were employed by the Hogans as domestic helpers.

which professional golfer was it that asked Hogan to sign his copy of modern fundamentals and before doing so Hogan thumbed through a few pages like he'd never seen it before? ie perhaps didn't write it but as some have suggested was written by sports illustrated and included what they thought would sell. correct me if i'm wrong but the book arose out of resolution of a dispute over a magazine series, he also received a cash settlement. Hogan has allegedly said that if he wrote an instruction book it would be this thick (spreading his thumb and forefinger as wide as it could go). he didn't suffer fools and even if he did write the book he wouldn't have been in the most forthcoming of moods. apologies if this issue has been argued ad nauseam around here which i suspect it has.

What food did Mr. H occasionally send back to the cook at Shady Oaks because it wasn't prepared properly?
Thought this one would be a bunny ...

Scrambled eggs ... Mr. H loved them, but only a certain way!
sure it wasn't the benedict? Read in his biography once he was extremely picky about the Hollandaise.
Not so sure the grill at Shady Oaks had Eggs Benedict on the menu ... LOL. I think the hollandaise reference was one of his buddies just busting his chops for acting all hoity toity sending his food back. Scrambled eggs and toast was a fairly regular order for Mr. H.

Nice memory on the hollandaise!
From what I've read, Hogan liked his eggs cooked in cream and would go back in the kitchen to show the restaurant staff how to do it.

Not sure if this rule existed back then, but what current rule violation did Ben break during the 1953 Open Championship?
He warmed the ball in his pocket with a hand warmer.

It did not violate any rule in force 1953.
I don't believe it violated a rule then or violates one today.

You cannot use a devise specifically to warm a golf ball. But if you are carrying a warmer for your hands in your pocket and a ball in that pocket happens to get warmed, that is OK.
