RTJ Ross Bridge Tips 8100 Yards

Has anyone ever played it from there.

I was just reading this on the Golf Digest website and saw the course measures over 8100 yards from the back tees. Just curious if anyone has ever played it from there and how it went.

I know I was in Wisconsin the year Erin Hills opened up and it was something like 7900 or so from back and Steve Stricker had played it and shot like 79 or something.

It makes you wonder what's the point of having tees that long on a public course, seems like it would only entice people to do just to say they did, which coudl create havoc on the pace of play.

I've played Ross Bridge a couple of times and I've seen the tees you mentioned, but both times they were inaccessible to the general public. The course was built with the idea of hosting professional tournaments, so I guess they thought they needed the tees to be available to keep up with technology. I also think there is a bit of machismo going on where the architect can say "See, I built an 8100 yard course!!!"

Also, both time I played Ross Bridge the starter told us what tees we would be playing based on our handicaps. It was phrased politely, but it was clearly not just a request that we play certain tees, if you understand my meaning. The carts have GPS and show you where you are in relation to others on the course and what your time is. The clubhouse can monitor every cart on the course and figure out if there are backups and what is causing them. It's a pretty cool system, and they are pretty serious about maintaining a reasonable pace of play.

Good information. Thanks for that. I've heard great things about the course. I'm glad they "close off" those tees to the general public.

Out of curiosity I looked up the scorecard. I tried to copy and paste it, but it didn't work. But here's the link. A couple interesting things.

1) the "easiest" hole is a 208 yard par 3
2) If I was playing the white and a tour buddy was playing the Tips, on holes 9 and 13, I'd be teeing off almost 180 yards in front of him. And he might only be about 30 yards behind me on our approaches
3) IF i were to try playing no. 13 from the Tips, I'd have to hit
1) A good drive for me 230
2) a good hbyrid for me 210
3) a good hybrid for me 210
4) Finally a 54* SW from 68

to hopefully reach it in 4.

I bet he had a very long day!! Did he tell you what he shot.

The Pete Dye course at the French Lick (IN) Resort is 8102 from the tips, with a 80.0 rating and 148 slope. IMO it's just ridiculous. How about these finishing holes

Erin Hills plays more than 8k but playing that long of a course is ridiculous and not fun unless its a links course (erin hills)

My buddy unfortunately played it after a spell of heavy rain. Said it played soooo long it wasn't even funny...and this guy is easy one of the five longest players I know.

there's a course called the international, near Boston. Their Pines course is 8400yds from the tips, has a 715yd hole and three par 4's over 530yds. One of them being 567

also has a few par 3's over 250yds and i think 2 of them have water in play.

the second shortest par 4 is 412yds and has water in play off the drive and the approach. I think that's the easy hole haha

i have a friend from there who has played it. Not from those tees though

I have and its an expierance.... everything you said is correct and they have a few greens that are a 100 yards long..... I had a few crazy putts!
