So between these two heads, I've settled on the STD Epic, but have a 10.5* SZ on the way

 

Here's some numbers from a quick comparison of the 9* Epic at SN and the 9* Epic SZ at +2N (12 gram rear, 2 gram front). Both with the same shaft (AD TP 7S 1/2" tipping ) playing at 44.75"

Having hit both the GBB and the SZ, how would you sum up the differences? They look nearly identical in the numbers for you.

So the XR16 SZ was great for me last year, and hearing how much more forgiving the EPIC SZ was going to be I thought it was going to be a no brainer.

IMO, unless you really need a lot of help with getting your launch down (and need that 12 gram weight in front for less spin) - the std. is just as long... however, with the 12 gram weight back, the SZ is darn forgiving. Like you pointed out, for me with the right settings, their were no differences .

 

I'm excited to try the 10.5 SZ, I'm gonna go SLDR on it, crank the loft up and put that weight forward to see if I get anyhthing more out of it. Otherwise, I'm completely more than happy with the std. version.

Played some of my best golf in a long while yesterday (and that was starting with 3-putts on the first 2 holes before convincing myself how slow they were)

 

Stole a round in Iowa at TCI in February :)

 

Shot 75, which for me is fantastic!

 

The Epic AD TP combo was good, too.

 

Funny thing was the two balls I played, though.

 

The front nine I played a Wilson Staff FG something (their tour ball a few years back) on the back I played a Kirkland.

 

Goes to show you we over think stuff way too much, hey!?

 

FWIW: the put the Wilson in play because I figured I was going to use it as breakfast ball. As I haven't hit a ball outdoors since November :)

It was actually in really darn good shape

 

When we teed off it was 40 by the second hole it was 50 By time we finished it was 65

I played TCI for the first time last year and really enjoyed the course. That is nice shooting, especially coming out of the deep freeze.

I've got way too much money tied up in lob wedges when all I really needed to do was buy backup sets. At this point I'm buying every 60* Scratch DS grind that comes up and dumping the high $ miura and scratch hand grounds I keep trying. When you find wedges you like its really tough to switch to new ones!

I refreshed my Engage 60 TS w a new one, and there is one more at the shop for $49 new

its ugly I know, but for ME it works so good out of the sand

I don't even have to think about it just automatic for me

 

they look like he L L on the shelf all rusted up and "broken" hahaha!

Yea V grind looked sweet but I couldn't figure it out on fuller swings, gotta hit it close from 80-100 so that's a no go.

just inside putts for a few weeks yet, but so far it seems legit

was waiting for a high MOI putter w a flow/slant neck

Played a lot of golf this week at PGA Village

 

Learned a couple things:

 

988 Rome is the unheralded fat and away the best hybrid shaft for me.

 

The DJ putter was very good.. still not sure it wins out over my Brick (I didn't bring that along in this trip)

 

The driver set up is great!!!

 

I could hook my M2 with the AD MJ8 if I got quick pretty easily- Epic 3W will be here today (888 going in it) to compare.

 

Lastly- my little guy enjoys the game!

Not exactly sure how the counterbalance of this group works but feels really good
